USB 1.0 vs 2.0 question

Is USB 1.0 and 2.0 both software and hardware change or just software?

In my desktop i have 4 usb ports: 2 front and 2 back. I plugged each of them into the two ports on my mainboard for the front USB ports.

In my device manager i have 4 USB (1.0) Controller devices and 1 Enhanced USB Controller Device.

I cant seem to find a place else to plug them in. My physical ports in my case say that they are Hi Speed USB so I know they support them. What am I missing?

update your drivers ?

possible that the stickers are lies also :stuck_out_tongue:

hardware, your bios should have an option which to use, or both.

Then go and update the drivers from MS

My bios has the option to change which to use.

A motherboard that supports such?

Wrong drivers?

Bad marketing ploy?

The ports on the case are typically not anything special as it’s 4 wires for both, with an optional ground. So either you are running some ancient hardware, or there is a driver issue.

USB 2.0 devices “should” be backwards compatible in most cases. It will just be slooooooow.

The USB ports on the motherboard are probably USB 1.0. If that’s the case it’s a hardware issue and you’ll need a different motherboard, or a cheap add on card.

How old is the motherboard?

And yeah, most 2.0 devices will work on 1.0 or 1.1 but they’ll be painfully slow. Fine for mice and keyboard but a real PITA for moving gigs of data off a thumb drive.

I will check the BIOS tonight. The motherboard supports it according the the website.

I just tried to sync my iPod on USB 1.1 and I wanted to kill myself.

yea check your bios and go from there… if you need it i still have that pci usb 2.0 card with 4 ports on it
