So I went to Wheel & Tire Zone for an alignment (which I still havn’t done since my new springs and now my inner tires are starting to wear off!! DOH!!!)
They told me they’d do it but I should really replace something involving tie rods (I can’t remember what now? I THINK it was tie rods. Something to with alignment because he said a particular adjustment would be like adjusting the free play present). Passenger side. I did ‘bump’ a curb a while back and had to replace my control arm. So anyway I figure I’ll just get all new stuff and throw it in. They wanted a $75 part + 1.5 hours labour to get it in. They said something about saving part and slipping this new little part inside? Anyone know if it’s difficult to install this stuff? I hope not
Tie rods is simple. No special tools are needed. The hardest part is trying to align it by hand. Just try and remember how many turns you turn the outer around the inner to get it off. Took me 3 1/2 hours to do mine on my back. And my alignment was terrible after my tire balded out I decided to get it aligned lol. Rides much better now.
Tie rod ends are very simple to replace. The only tricky part is getting the new tie rod end to the exact same spot where the old one was. Your toe in/toe out will be a little wacked after this so its wise to get an alignment done.
Why is this thread all over the place? Just put it in Technical where it belongs. I answered your question. But its real annoying to see this under every catergory. It really isn’t that important.
do not go to ecomony. i worked at CT for a year and they are crap. go with TRW or MOOG (special order). Lifetime warrenty and alot more beefy. if you go to ecomony you will have to replace them aroudn every year and some alignment shops will not do your vehicle cuz they are CRAP
Thanks for confirming it wasn’t worth the $30 difference or whatever
Anyway … Just got my car back from Wheel and Tire zone. WOW! What a difference a fudged tie rod makes!
With my toe back in order and almost all suspension components recently replaced the car drives completly different. Much more traction, ride quality is +++ and steering feel is a million times better.
Anyway my point is: If you ever need to replace damaged control arms, check your tie rods as well. They are likely damaged.
