hello, i purchased a 1987 300zx non turbo and am attempting to change the timing belt and tensioner i’m new to nissans…i was looking at the haynes manual and it said i have to loosen my rocker arms and remove the plentum…why would i have to do this?
Probably so you have adequate room to work in…
If you’re strong enough you can turn the cams against the spring tension. I wouldn’t waste time loosening the rockers.
If I could give you a tip. Remove your spark plugs while you do this. It makes it so easy to set your engine at top dead center and to line up the marks on your crank and cams with no compression. (just blow the holes out first. Dont want shit falling into the chambers)
Why the manual says to remove your plenum and valve covers is beyond me. When I did mine I never once thought …“working on the front of my engine would be alot easier if the shit on top was gone??”
I just removed the fan, shroud, belts, pulleys, harmonic balancer, tbelt covers and away you go. Just check your installation twenty times. The moment when you first turn your key makes you shit.
