Timing chain on sr20det?

so ive decided to do the timing chain, now on the cam gears, there are 2 circles, can anyone please help and tell me where they are supposed to be, like both top dead center?, or both of the circles facing eachother, or both pointing in a certain direction?, theres a yellow link on the timing chain, or is this irrelevant to the timing.

the mitchell internet shop manual at my shop doesnt work, so I really dont know what to do.

my buddy says maybe the chain jumped because the 2 circles never align with eachother.

also to take the crank pulley off, is there some sort of special tool, seems very tough to pull off and i dont wanna try sticking a prybar behind the pulley to get it off.

Pls if anyone can tell me i would be very grateful.
thanks

You’ll need a pully pulling tool for the crank pulley. You’ll also need to drop both the big and little oil pans to get the timing cover off.

Paint the shit out of your cam gears and your chains so you know how it goes back together. One is supposed to be straight up, and one is at 1 o’clock i think. Can’t remember which or what. You have to have the engine on TDC on the compression stroke i think.

yeh holy crap what a stupid design for that oil pickup(on the timing chain cover), the flanges attached to the cover are a beeatch of a thin to deal with, why couldnt it be lined with the bottom. anyways still half way thru, we’ll at least im learning about the SR as i go through with it.

oh yeh the crank pulley , i refered to a former Nissan tech, he says it was just seized on, so i qwatro’d it al day and it finally came off

I use a pair of large screwdrivers to take the pulley.

Yeah. I just installed my Unorthodox Racing pulley last weekend.

Go to Canadian Tire, they have a little pulley puller for about 6 bucks. It looks like there is two thin L shaped bits that look like this: (without the spaces, of course)

It also has a screw in the top of it - put the flanges behind the pulley after you get the bolt off, and screw the top screw on the puller until it pulls the pulley off.

No you don’t acually. It’s got a keyway so you can pull it off by hand. I pulled mine off using a small torch and my hands.
