I have a 2006 Jeep Liberty Renegade. Its in great condition, but the rear Bumper is Faded pretty pad. Its got a black Bumper Cover, I believe its Plastic, maybe fiberglass? Im wondering what kind of paint I could use on this so it doesn’t look like crap. Here is a random picture of a Jeep. I just need the top black piece of the bumper painted. Any tips?
It is most likely plastic. You can remove the plastic insert from the bumper itself to make it easier to work with. If you don’t like the Satin look you can use a Semi-Gloss paint. Use a self etching primer, for plastics, then any top coat.
If you want to do it the easy way they sell paint exactly for this in any Autoparts store. It is called Bumper and Trim paint. Problem is you may have to re-coat it more often (Maybe once every other year) from wear.
Are you fromiliar with removing it? I took a look at it, and it looked like a big project removing it.
That’s a high traffic area on your truck, it’s going to constantly be subject to wear and whatnot, I would suggest leaving it.
There is a oil based product that refreshes the ABS plastic trim pieces on older vehicles, I’ll see if I can find it for you.
Meguiars Back to Black?
Jeep likes to change their stuff up recently…a lot. Which surprises me cause the CJ went unchanged for like 15 years.
Anyways, I have not seen an '06 Renegade but hopefully you should be able to remove it. They call the Renegade package “Cladding” so it could be all one piece. Take a look inside the rear bumper, if you can get to it without removing it great. If not, you may need to take it off. If is is two pieces you should see little clips on the inside. You can press the clips together and pull the plastic cover off. It should go pretty easy if it is clipped in place. If not, then it is probably all molded as one piece. If it is all one piece you are probably SOL and I would leave it.
Or, you can always get some bedliner and put that on. Just clean and brush/roll on. You can score a starter kit for around $80 if I remember correctly.
Yeah LZ I think that is it. I’m not sure how effective it is but it’s worth a shot
Rubbercare works pretty good on the textured black plastic, apply it twice in one week and it lasts all year.
Just spend a little bit of time taping it off if it’s going to be too big of a pain to remove it. Throw a sheet over the top of your truck and tape it where it hangs, then use newspaper for everything else left uncovered.
