Tire sizing for new wheels.

I need some help on choosing the right tire sizes for the new wheels I’m about to get. The wheels are 17x7.5.
I dont want to go all “hellaflush” and whatnot, it’s not my cup of tea. I want the widest tire possible, without having the sidewall be so tall that there is too much flex.I had the exact same wheels last season, and the previous owner has 245/55/17’s on them. Let me know! Thanks!

Terrible wheel size, and even worse tire size. If your set on keeping those wheels, I wouldn’t run wider than a 235 and go with a 40 or 45 series tire.

245/45 is approved for that width.

I’ve just had some people tell me that the sidewall is too tall in that size, and will bend too much. I’m not sure I want those wheels anymore. I need to find nice wheels that come in 17’s, in 4x114.3, and that are fairly wide to fit fatty’s on them. I’m looking to time attack my car this season. I really dont want to do a 5-lug conversion. Does anyone know of any wheels that fit that description? I appreciate any help! Thanks peoples!

go on tire rack, look at the specs of any given tire and it will tell you the approved rim width for any given size. good idea looking for new wheels, you will want 17x8 up to 9.5 on stock body. the only 4 lug wheels available in those sizes (that can be bought new) are; rota, varrstoen, xxr, phatfux and msr 230’s

I’m getting some Rota P45R rims, 17 x 9.5, I’m stretching my tires and I believe the smallest I can go is like 225 or 235/40 or 45. They come in 4 x 114.3 and they look awesome. My friend just picked up some 7.5 for his mazda 3 and I believe he put 225’s on them and they fit perfectly.

I love the way P45R’s look! I should get pricing on them. Thanks man!

i got rota p45r’s (4 lug)

215/40/r17 in the front
225/45/r17 on the rears

didnt have coils at time of pic but it would sit flush

235 - 245 x 45 …BEST GRIP

Andy’s auto sport has em for 150 a piece I believe, and orders over 75 get free shipping anywhere :stuck_out_tongue: Not sure if they have crazy wide ones though. And Randy, what dimensions were your rims?

17x9 with + or - 17 offset can’t remember im sure you can figure it out with some googling.

Andy ASport has p-45f not r’s they have less offset not as agressive r’s are a little more in price around 200-250 range brand new

Oh okay, just knew they had p-45’s, didn’t look at the difference between f’s and r’s, thanks for letting me know though. :stuck_out_tongue: Now I gotta go find some r’s D: UGH!

That’s exactly what I want. I could really care less about stance/flush-ness/low-offset, etc etc. Like I said, I want my car to grip like a mothaaaa, lap the track and destroy the clock.

get a 17 x 9, run 245/40/17 with some decent camber (track alignment), Roll your fenders. And your golden.
