Just bought the wifey 4 new tires online. I’ve been calling around to get quotes on having them put on. The quotes have ranged from $15 to $30 a tires. Whats a fair price to pay?
Those are pretty fair prices for a place to install them without the tire purchase coming from their store.
Go to the place for 15.
The place for $15 is a mom and pop gas station, Sears said $30. Is this the type of thing you can’t really screw up?
Its pretty hard to screw up from what I have seen.
The tire either seals to the rim and holds air or it doesnt.
The balancing you would be able to notice immediately at highway speeds if they didnt get that right.
try walmart, I think its like $8
Really?? even if I bring my own tires in?
Walmart is 3.50 for mounting, one time balance is 7.50 and valve stems are 2.50.
I think. I just do the work, I don’t know the prices…they sound about right though.
Note to remember: ALL WALMART TLE’s ARE DIFFERENT. Some TLE’s don’t care about the work they do, they work slowly and perform poor work. Some do their work well. Keep an eye on your tires being mounted regardless, no matter where you go
IB4 someone doesn’t read your location and says swerve!
You were the first person to say swerve in this thread.
IB4Yourself!
The thing is … i don’t think the walmarts down here do tire and oil changes. Atleast I havent seen one.
If it’s a Wal-Mart SuperCenter, they have a TLE in the back somewhere. If it’s just a regular Wal-Mart, they don’t have it.
Not to impune the abilities of our on-forum Walmart tire guys, but in 95% of cases, you get what you pay for. Take them to a reputable shop that doesn’t also sell diapers, Makin’ Bacon cookers and dog food. Expect to spend about 70-90 bucks to get it done right…the first time.
whAt size should be 25
No offense taken You’ve got a point though.
There’s always the slim chance you could get lucky and go to one of the better stores, and have the work done by a person who does really good work. Really depends…that’s why I watch whoever is working on my car.
I got my new truck tires mounted at walmart. $11/tire for LIFETIME balancing is a great deal. Would I take my nice rims for my GTO there? Hell no! But for basic pop tires on and hammer on a balance weight where the machine tells them they’re fine. Same chance of a rim scratch as you get at any other chain where the tech has little incentive to see the store do well. Best part was I tossed the tires in the truck and that was it. The wife did our grocery shopping while they were doing the tires so I wasn’t stuck sitting around waiting for a shop to mount them. When she got home I took the truck for a spin up to 75mph with no shakes so the balance was fine.
When you want real good service like sticky weights and someone who’s real careful with your rims you go to a trusted local privately owned shop like Swerve if you’re in WNY. But it won’t be $11 a tire.
I had a place try to charge me $200 yesterday.
WTF! I ended up paying $95
If you don’t care about scratches, just do it yourself with a screw driver.
If you do care, take it somewhere reputable.
There is no point in paying someone to scratch your wheels when you can diy.
