So I need me some new tires before next friday…and Azenis are sold out across zee country in the size I need for the front (235/40/17) So I’m debating over a couple different combos:
#1
2 x Advan AD07s 235/40/17 = $418 from tirerack
2 x Advan AD07s 255/40/17 = $478 from tirerack
Total: $910
#2
2 x Advan AD07s 235/40/17 = $418 from tirerack
2 x Advan A048s 255/40/17 = $510 from tirerack
Total: $969
#3
2 x Toyo RA1s 235/40/17 = $344 from edge racing
2 x Toyo RA1s 255/40/17 = $324 from edge racing
When warm I’m getting almost no wheelspin standing on the throttle through first. My OEM tires would cause the traction control fits, or the tires to go up in a cloud of smoke if TC was off.

Seemed great at the autocross at ECC-N, and the spirited driving I’ve done around town. I was really worried because they wouldn’t turn at all at the NCCC event, but then I realized it was because the lot was the consistancy of a dirt road.
Also I don’t know how stupid it would be to run RA1s daily

Having never driven them myself, but knowing people who run them, only mildly stupid. For a race tire, they seem to have great wear, acceptable noise, and decent wet grip. You won’t see the kind of wear characteristics of a pure street tire, and they’ll be noisy and not so great in the wet, especially standing water (as you’d expect,) but they seem to work a lot better on the street than a lot of other choices that give the same dry grip and response.
OT: You can fit bigger tires on an STI on the stock rims. But if you have an aftermarket rim with a different offset, your choices are more limited. I run a 235 on the street, and a 255 on my stock rims for the track.
