Ever have one of those days where you just wake up realizing its just not going to be your day. Well, let me take you through my day today.
I wake up prematurely and cannot fall back asleep. No big deal, I think I’ll just start my morning jog a bit early. Sole in my running shoe falls apart, guess its time for new shoes.
About 11am, and looky here, UPS man shows up with my new mickey thompsons, and some old rims that I had bought off someone from the corral. Well, things are looking good here… go out and get them mounted onto the rims, sweet. Good day for racing.
Girlfriend was supposed to go to the track with me today (thank god she didn’t: read below why). But we end up getting in a small tiff over something ultimately stupid, but thats relationships.
Time to jack up the cobra and put the mickeys on… pull out the locking lugnut key, and wtf… broken? Just my luck. what do I do? I drive to three different Ford deals to see if maybe they have a master. No such luck, and it’ll be a few weeks before a new key can be sent to me. So, I figure I can get the locking lugs chizzled off… found someone to do it, SCORE! Even if it did run me $30, at this point I just wanted to go racing.
So I got off the old locking lugs, and replaced them with new ones. Get back home, time to jack the car up again, and attempt this. Began loosening up some of the lugs, and WTF… I twist my knee (I have a bad left knee). Oh well, I say to hell with it, and keep going on… I think God hated me today or something.
Anyway, got the tires on finally. Well I need gas, so I stop at the one Sunocos past Primantis to fill up the tank. No big deal, even though out of all of the Sunocos on the stretch of Rt.51 I travel, I have to stop at the one who is one of the more expensive ones ($2.04/gal for 93). Chalk it up to piss poor planning for me.
Finally get to the track… But wtf, forgot my tire pressure gauge, so now I have to go and find one… 10 minutes later, I finally find one and begin airing out my tires. Go line up to run em… Not a bad launch, but wtf… after I launch my RPM’s are just hanging. Could it be my clutch? Probably so, I’ve been having problems with it. My best 60’ of the night was a shitty 1.84. Oh well, just not my night I guess. I don’t get the 11 second pass that I wanted, but again, practice practice practice. That or maybe just a better clutch, who knows. I sure as hell dont. Only highlight of the night was beating that Viper R/T 10. 12.4 (not my best of the night though) to his 12.7. Not a time I’m to proud off… shouldve been an 11.XX GRRRR!!! :squint:
Right before that run, it began to drizzle rain… oh well, maybe its just isolated like Mike said (Silver WS6). Well PRP closes down early due to the rain, so I air up my tires, put my headlight back in, and plug my boost bypass back in, and off I go.
All the way down Rt.22 I’m perfectly fine, and for the most part of 376 I’m good to go. Once I got past Churchill, is when things got a little wobbly. So I threw on my Hazzards, and proceeded to go about 25mph. Big truck comes past me, and splashes a shit load of water into my lane, and I feel my ass end to wobble. So I hit the brakes gentle, then feel a thump in the back… to what I assume to be the car that was behind me, had nudged me. So I go into a spin and end up hitting the barrier which was one lane to my left over from me, with my passenger side front. (ya you do the math) and end up facing traffic.
About 20 minutes later BJ shows up, and up and stands there in the rain with me. Cop shows up, and then finally the tow truck arrives. Well unfortunately I can’t move my car, the steering is shot, so the tow truck hooks it to a chain, and tries to drag it to the other side. All you hear is pop (mustve been something in the front suspension). BJ and I cringed. So did my buddy who has an 04 Cobra, KC.
Now, Sam, Mike, and Bob show up. I did not expect this, nor did I understand fully why. But thanks for being there. Finally a flatbed shows up, and lifts my car up on there. But since it was nudged by another car, and it was not present, they want to hold the car till a trooper can inspect the damage in the day light. Oh well, who knows when my insurance can come and see it. I did file a claim, and the good thing is, the tires on the back of it won’t be an issue, as long as there is a DOT approval on them, which there is thank God.
My girlfriend also showed up, which again surprised me, since She lives all the ways over in Moon, and I didnt expect her to come and give me a ride home, when I had a few offers already.
But I do want to say a few things though.
1.) No, I do not have a strange attraction to walls of any nature.
2.) I didn’t know it was supposed to rain tonight, my own ignorance kept me away from checking the weather reports.
3.) I’ve never driven/raced on Mickeys before, so learning experience for me
Thank you BJ, for stopping, basically in the middle of traffic and standing there with me for basically all of it. You’re a real stand up guy. I don’t know many people who’d stand there and get drenched over someone they didn’t know to long. I thank you
KC… same goes to you man, especially since you were driving another Cobra in this kind of weather on drag radials (not in my boat, but still bad). Glad you made it home alright too
Mike, I don’t know to many people who’d keep calling me to see if im ok. But I’m still speechless about you guys showing up.
Bob, Sorry for havin ya stand out in the rain as well. I know its probably the last thing you’d want to be doing that night. But you’ve been a good friend the past few years.
And lastly, Sam. You were the last person I’d expect to see. I do apologize for cutting up on you, and our “flame wars” we’ve had over the past year or so. You showed your true colors today, and it impressed me. (Don’t know what that says) But you have my respect. I’m burying my end of the hatchet between the two of us. Thank you.
And to everyone else, I apologize for not shaking your hands, or even saying thank you in person. I was in pain, shaken up, and just not in the right state of mind. Thank you for showing up.
