PS2 and PSP are the only systems I bought when they launched.
Sega Master System was out for years by the time I got it.
Sega Genesis was about 3 years from ending when I bought that.
Super Nintendo was dead when I bought that.
PS1 was out about 2 years before I bought it.
Sega Game Gear I got about a year after it came out.
N64 I bought about 3 years ago, already dead.
I think thats it. My fiance has Gamecube and Gameboy Advance which she bought shortly after they were released.
I bought the PSP at launch. (only launch purchase for me)
I got the PS2 a while after it was launched (whenever it hit $200)
I got the PS1 awhile after it launched (not sure when however)
I had a Game Gear but that was out for probably a year or two when I got it.
I got the Super Nintendo a year or so after it came out I think. (I remember paying $100 for it at Toys R Us)
I had a Gameboy Color but it was out for quite some time when I got it.
I had an original Game Boy but I dunno how long it was out when I got it.
I got the NES for Christmas in 1989.
I had an Atari 2600 but it wasn’t really mine… was my parents I believe.
Reason #10: Xbox 360 Doesn’t Have a Killer App - Anyone who has played COD2 knows its a killer app, and anyone who knows anything knows MS is waiting for the PS3 before it releases Halo3.
Reason #9: Dual-Screen and 1080p Support - MS had progressive scan in the XBOX, PS2 did not… but PS2 nutt huggers didn’t seem to think it was important. (And most TVs do not support it…most = 99%)
Reason #8: Hefty Expandability / Connectivity Options - Compact Flash, SD Card, Memory Stick, Blue Tooth, USB 2.0… Why do you need all this crap? They all do the same thing. Pick one… no reason to use USB if you have Blue tooth… and no reason to need a CompFlash if you have a memory stick… or all of the above. Just transport it via network.
Reason #7: You Can Still Pre-Order - You could Pre-Order XBOX for a long time before it was released. Of course this statement won’t be true in 6 months when the PS3 is finally available.
Reason #6: Seven-Player Wireless Support - I always thought 4 was enough, but 7 would be nice. Until you see that 120FPS divided up into 7 people… = ~20FPS per player. Now it doesn’t sound so good.
Reason #5: The HD IP Camera - I never knew it was that popular. I thought it was really gay, and everyone I know with a PS2 thinks the same. It may have been successful compared to things like it… but I already have a webcam collecting dust. I think the whole "internet chatting/video/etc… " is being blown out of porportion cause they don’t have a unified online community like LIVE.
Reason #4: Full Backwards Compatibility - Sony has the PSOne and PS2 library covered, save for a few minor exceptions - Doesn’t sound FULL if you ask me, sounds like the XBOX.
Reason #3: Stronger Japanese Developer Support - Thats great and all… but XBOX didn’t need it. PS2 offered grand theft auto, and GT… everything else wasn’t worth the PS2.
Reason #2: Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots - See COD2.
Reason #1: The Blu-ray Player - The most unsupported media on the face of the earth. Rumor has it the games will be closer to 80 bucks… due to this… thats why LIVE and the HD were so popular…
