Don’t know why I’m making music threads lately but here’s another one :lol
What are your 5 favorite albums and why. Keep the greatest hits to a minimum here, I don’t think they technically should count :lol
I’m going to break my own rule and list 7 because I can’t narrow them down :lmao :lmao :lmao
In no order
Weezer (Blue Album): Weezer
This is their debut album and I love the mix of uptempo “anthem” songs and a few slower “ballad” ones. Only In Dreams is a fantastic song, as is Say it Ain’t So. There are also songs that are great just to blast and sing along to, like The World Has Turned and Left Me Here, Buddy Holly, and In The Garage. Simple alternative rock at its best.
Abbey Road: The Beatles
The Beatles’ most commercialized and arguably “overproduced” album, but I can’t get enough of it. An album that’s best to listen to in order, yet there’s still some classic singles (I Want You (She’s So Heavy), Here Comes The Sun, Come Together, etc). I love how the album really builds up from Because through the end of the album, coming to a peak at Carry That Weight and then slowing down again with The End and Her Majesty.
Illmatic: Nas
Just a killer album. His debut album, really threw him into the spotlight. So many great singles, my favorite rap album by far. The best songs are The World is Yours, It Ain’t Hard to Tell (probably my 2 favorite rap songs) Halftime and Life’s a Bitch.
Meteora: Linkin Park
This album is superior in EVERY WAY to Hybrid Theory :shifty . One of the few CD’s where I like every song on it. Awesome to drive to, tons of emotion, great beats guitar, whatever, and just enough “screamo” but not overkill. About as “hardcore” as my music tastes go. The best songs are Lying From You, Faint, Don’t Stay, Breaking The Habit, Somewhere I Belong, Numb, and Easier To Run. That’s like over half the album :rofl
Hot Fuss: The Killers
Again… debut album. Everyone knows Mr. Brightside and Somebody Told Me, but there’s some other great tracks buried in there. I really like Jenny Was A Friend Of Mine, All These Things That I’ve Done, Midnight Show, and Believe Me Natalie. The album has a different sound is hard to describe, sounds kind of like The Strokes…
Room On Fire: The Strokes
LOVE the sound of this album. Has an electronic rock feel, mostly upbeat/fast pace songs. Julian Casablancas sings through a filter in this album which I kind of like, it’s different but not overly so to make it irritating. I also like every song on this album, they’re great to drive to. Some of the highlights are 12:51, Meet Me In The Bathroom, Automatic Stop, Between Love & Hate and When It Started
By The Way: Red Hot Chili Peppers
I love all of their albums just about equally (except The Uplift Mofo Party Plan is kind of weak in my opinion), but By The Way stands out for some reason. Every one of their songs could pass as a single, I think, even the bonus track The Bicycle Song. Between Universally Speaking, I Could Die For You, Venice Queen and The Zephyr Song, they’ve got the slow tempo covered, and On Mercury, Can’t Stop, By The Way and Throw Away Your Television do work in the “fast” department.
That’s enough procrastinating from an Ancient Greece paper for one night for me, what says you?
