top and bottom mounting

For the turbo, which is easier and requires less “custom” work to make everything fit, top or bottom mounted turbos? Any benefit or just “looks”?

Bottom is the stock fitment, so it’s pretty obvious it requires less custom work. Top mount is for “looks” and if the turbo is too big to fit underneith anymore.

Anything need to be done for top mounting? Moving stuff, custom make stuff?

You need a custom downpipe, that is for sure.

You’ll need a custom o2 extention, custome downpipe, custome oil and coolant lines, manifold (obviously), probably a heatshield for the master cylinder, custom intake, custom intercooler piping… pretty much as far from stock positioning as possible, so anything attached to the stock position will now be custom. To be honest, unless your new turbo doesn’t fit under there, it serves as no useful purpose to have it up top, other than looks. IN fact, it’s probably hotter in the engine bay having it up top.

WHAT ARE YOU TRYING TO DO I GUESS IS MY FIRST QUESTION TO YOU. ? LOOK AT THE SIZE OF THE TURBO AND SEE WHICH WAY IT FITS FIRST OFF ALL.
BOTTOM MOUNT U GOT CROSSMEMBER ENGINE MOUNT AND STERING RACK AS WELL AS SOME EGR WITH ALL THE OTHER STUFF THATN ITS YOUR BEST BET. SIDEMOUNT=U HAVE EGR CRAPALL OVER AND OF COURSE THE STRUT TOWER DISTRIBUTOR ETC
TOP MOUNT = LOTS OF FREE SPACE UNTILL U HIT THE HOOD ALSO IF IT SITS TOWARDS THE BACK OR TURBO IS LARGE ENOUGH U GONNA MELT YOUR MASTER CYLINDER. ANYWAY I HOPE THAT HELPS . SORRIE ABOUT THE CAPSI AM AT WORK.http://home.att.net/~mabuhaycarlos/logmanifold.jpg

Do they sell kits for top mounting turbos that include manifold, all the piping, heat shield for master cylinder, etc.?

if you have looke dfor kits then u havent looked hard enough! HKS makes kits, apexi makes kits, greddy makes kits! for both top and bottom mount applications!

the most common kit i see is greddy td06 with topmount manifold! they dont fetcha REAL high price of yahoo japan! and should get u upto 350+ hp
