Toyota Launches New Aero Kit with Giant Rear Wing

Rice! cough cough I meant Nice!

One after the other, Toyota’s local divisions are presenting new accessories for the 86 rear-wheel drive sports coupe, which is also known as the GT86 in Europe and the Scion FR-S in North America.

After the Five:AD aero package in the States for the FR-S, and a selection of styling parts from Toyota Europe for the GT 86, it’s time for the brand’s Australian arm to create a comprehensive aero package for the 86.

The kit consists of a new front bumper skirt with vertical fins to control air entering the front grille and dual canards at 12-degree angles, side skirts, a rear bumper apron housing a diffuser plus a large rear spoiler with horizontal ‘winglets’ on the uprights.

According to the Japanese automaker, the package not only gives the 86 a racier appearance but is fully functional as it has been designed to reduce aerodynamic drag and increase downforce for improved handling, while maintaining the vehicle’s 0.27 drag coefficient.

The aero package is available exclusively to the high-grade GTS model regardless of the transmission choice, with pricing set at AU$3,000 (US$3,008 or €2,400).

Looks like they tried turning it into a mini supra

I thought the exact same thing…

I dont hate it?

:gotme:

I would drive it I wish they offered one of these with a turbo

looks like they actually made them functional?

and turbo models will be coming later as per common sense.

Link?

A lot of what I read said it wouldn’t happen with the Toyota model but might happen with the Subaru one.

I say common sense because Subaru are already selling a turbo version of this new motor:

id rock that

The wing looks like it’s above the roof, up out of the slipstream and into clean air, where it can actually get some bite. Same premise with this rice rocket.

I accept that…but those factory wheels are so god damn shitty, it’s hard to take…

Unlike an Evo or an STI that spoiler looks really out of place.

Its all functional which is super nice. My biggest beef is actually the wheels…they have horrible offset and don’t seem to flow with the car. This turbo’d with 375hp/350tq would be uber fun.

Wheels are never a huge concern its a quick and easy thing to change.

reminds me of that celica wing.

The “Action Package.”

I also dont hate it…

I think they did such a good job with this car. Cant wait for the turbo version BRZ, ESPECIALLY if it boasts 280ish whp out of a 2.0L.

Thought the same thing. Its bad when there advertising slogan was “LOOKS FAST”

I liked that gen. Celica. Especially the guaranteed tremendous safety model.

Same. One of the worst looking cars in decades.

I like this aero package, but the wing needs to be further back down the trunk, it’s too close to the C Pillar from the front view which is why it looks odd.

 to Joe for the Curb reference.
