After buying 10 new vehicles for myself and family, I have a good idea of trade-in values. Which is why I wanted to get a third opinion on my GTP trade-in value.
'02 Grand Prix GTP, 89,000 miles, leather, Bose, sunroof, all the standard stuff, 1/2 - 3/4 tread on tires, no dings, interior good shape, needs inspected this month and will pass with no investment. No mechanical problems.
As a reference, Kelley Blue Book is $6900 excellent, $6310 good, $5315 fair.
What do you see as a realistic trade-in value at a dealer? I know you can play games with the new car offer and trade-in, but I can figure that out once I have the actual trade-in number that I think is fair.
They may not be off by much, but I won’t mention the numbers so I don’t bias anyone.
Anyone have acces to one of the black books that dealers may use?
I would hope for like 6,400 or 6,500 bucks without them messing around with the price of the car to compensate. When my family or myself have traded in cars, we usually get pretty close to the KBB.
Do you want to sell that car private party? They have a really special niche in New England where you can get a good bit more for it than the trade in. Quickly too.
Post it up on this site www.nepontiac.org and massclubgp.com
If you can represent it well you have a good shot at more than the dealer.

Dealers use auction pricing for the most part on trade in values, so they know that they will get thier money back out of thier cars when they go to the block. manhiem is the big auction most cars go to so thats what we use. and it is also who publishes those black books. here are the auction prices jeff for the last week. realistically, i see you getting anywhere between 4750-5500 on a trade in,
KBB just isn’t realistic, dealers def. use NADA or the auction values whether they plan on taking the car to auction or not. Your car sounds like a candidate for retail in some cases but then it just depends on the dealership. If they have a used lot or better yet a separate used dealership I think you can get a little more for your trade.
$5900 from Don Allen Mazda (but I told them I would have old tires on it) with the CX-9 at invoice price.
$5300 from Smail with the CX-9 at invoice price, but they came up to $5900 (with good tires on it). And they know that Don Allen wanted the car from them so that dealer trade won’t be happening now.
Bowser said $6500, but that was with $1K over invoice for the Acadia.
Sounds like $5900 is about right then.
Unfortunately there are no incentives, and 5.9% for 60 months isn’t spectacular, so we may just forget the whole thing until summer when more bills are paid and we can put more down. Bah. What a waste of time for the past two weeks.
i was talking to a few sales guys about the acadia yesterday and they told me the rates/incentives flat out suck. They said a denali envoy is the way to go over the acadia. im not sure how much thought you put into an envoy, but may definately be something to check out.
And if you are going GM, give me a call and ill see what i can get them to do for you.
Yeah, neither Mazda or GMC have any great offers right now on what we want (3rd row, so no Envoy). Maybe after winter or as gas prices keep going up there might be some offers.
I bet they’ll be excited when I call back and tell them we don’t think we want to buy it now. Don’t they know you should never let a customer leave the showroom?
A guy I work with has a new Denali Envoy, it has third row, DVD, leather and the I think the 5.3. We went to lunch in it, I was really suprised at the power.
I remember taking the third row out of an 06 or 07 denali envoy and lugging it up a flight of stairs with a friend, since he wanted to make more room for his 4 dogs…
