Tranny/Flywheel help

there’s this broken grinding noise (- - - - - - -)coming from my tranny in everygear, it starts off slow and picks up when the rpms increase. Goes away when clutch is in. I also get a similar noise when i’m downshifting, except for its a constant noise (-----------)not broken like when accelerating.

Question is, Pilot Baring? Release Baring? and or tranny?

thanks

i thought the pilot baring was pressed inside the flywheel, and the inputshaft sits inside of it.

Good thing i happen to have a whole second motor set siting in my other car, i wasn’t planning on ripping it out until later, but hey, nows as good of a time as any.

Hey Philip how hard is it to change the piolt bearing?

its pretty hard. not too bad getting it out if you can find a pilot bushing remover but getting it back in sucks. i am trying to change mine but i cant even get my flywheel off

ITS CRAPPY TRANSMISSION MONTH!!!

Oh, the pilot bearing is in the engine?
I thought it was on the input shaft of the tranny…

sortof. the input shaft meets up with it, but its behind the flywheel in the crank case

Ahhhh…

well in my quest to fix the drivetrain of the car, i swapped the rear half-shafts, pumpkin, and driveshaft today. Although i know it’s the tranny thats screwed(leaking oil, its wet underneath on the tranny and everything else is dry) there was this vibration in the rear, so the switch seems to have solved this.

Not bad for a days work i guess.

i’m still confused about the pilot baring though, i always thought it was the baring pressed into the flywheel. But its behind the flywheel? clarify this for me if you can.

thanks

i thought it was in the flywheel too

thanks philip, that really clears things up.
