Truck recommendations?

Looking to help buy my girl a truck around April/May 2010.

She needs something that can tow minimum of like 5000 lbs for her horse+it’s trailer.

Looking into Nissan titans, Toyota tundra and dunno what else yet. (Prefer foreign trucks)

Price range: $11,000 - $15,000

Recommendations?

Why do you prefer foreign trucks? This is one area where Domestic is the way to go.

American cars are for the most part crap and always breakdown…figured trucks were the same?

If not, which in particular?

You can probably get a nice Silverado 2002-2004 with <70K for that money.

70k miles eww…

Saw a nice 2006 nissan titan with 39k miles for $14k

Does she need/want 4WD?

You can get them cheaper than that.

Silverados have good transmissions, a bulletproof engine, and everything else is pretty solid. They don’t rust bad and are really cheap to fix. The tailgate sometimes fucks up. They make the best overall diesel too. It’s reliable for what it is and the Allison transmission is god.

Ram’s don’t have good transmissions. The motor isn’t anything spectacular either. Everything about dodge trucks are just blah. I guess you gotta be a Chrysler guy. The diesel is the complete opposite, awesome motor and the transmissions are okay(manual is better, but still pussy).

Ford’s have the nicest looks, and frame. The motor normally is a bit wimpy(4.6l especially) and the transmissions are okay. Stay away from the diesel 6.0l.

fuck toyota and nissan when it comes to trucks.

Buy a silverado.

Question: how often is the truck getting used? is it also going to be her daily driver or are we talking about 2 days per month.

Yes, she’s never driven a truck before so every bit will help in the winter. even though the winters aren’t too bad in North Carolina where we’ll be moving after she buys the truck.

Daily driver.

This one’s a manual but yeah. Lots more if thats not her thing.

Thanks Joe, I won’t be buying it til April/may though so not looking for specific trucks yet, more so doing research on which brand to get for her.

Oh and she can only drive automatic

sobo had a pretty spot-on analysis. Also whatever you do don’t get a V6. For many reasons.

Just curious…why no v6? Also whats wrong with toyota/nissan?

-People buy them for fuel economy, but in many cases it’s actually worse due to having to work harder to lug a big truck around.
-If you’re going to be towing a pretty heavy trailer, you want all the torque you can get. It’s a scary feeling when you’re going up a hill in the winter and the motor is struggling with the load. Particularly for a girl.
-Stressing an underpowered motor just makes the drivetrain in general wear out faster.
-It’s a truck. A lot of things you use it for go easier with some grunt on the low end.

5000lbs sounds like way too much for a V6

The nissians diffs blow up all the time.
Gms do have the best tranny when it has a diesel.nothing wrong with chrysler trans either.
I dont really like the fords, they seem to be rotting on the undersides really fast(inlcuding exhaust manifolds, engine blocks, engine oil pan, trans pans ect, ect).
Diesels are the best for towing but any truck with a v8 shouldnt be a problem to tow with.

you can get an awd ss silverado for 15k.

there is no reason to be scared of mileage either. it means nothing.

Me personally, I would get a ford with the 4.6L…

nothing is more enjoyable to tow with than a Chevy with the duramax and the allison trans. you dont even know the load is there. fuel economy is in the 20’s in normal driving and the diesel is super quiet. dunno if that is in your price range though.

i HATE towing with gas engines vs diesels. diesel is far superior for towing if its going to happen often.
