i want to get ur guys opinions on this, i am thinking about gettin a LW aluminum flywheel for my car that will be turbo’d and i heard that there is a good chance that if u run a aluminum flywheel with a turbo u could warp the flywheel cause of the heat. so does anyone run one with a turbo or have any experience?
I don’t really think a turbo is going to make the transmission hotter…
i’m taking out my 9lb flywheel and going back to stock cause it’ll rev too fast once the boost hits… if you have a moderately sized turbo tho i woudln’t worry about it
u know with like hard engaging and stuff like racing at the track maye??? or no
i will be runnin a t3/t4
engaging is in the clutch…
the lightweight flywheel has less rotating mass so it will rev faster
i think you’d be ok, what kinda car? maybe someone more car specific could chime in
Alum flywheels are pretty much MADE FOR RACING apps. they sure arent OEM replacements. I think You’ll be fine with any ‘extra heat’
will they create a lesser load on the motor thereby delaying boost? probably… a hair or two.
Will it rev quicker to ‘mask’ or compensate for this? probably.
Eitherway, less rotating mass is usually not a bad thing at all.
Consider going to a puck clutch as well.
$0.02
i’d be more worried about getting a beefier clutch, rather than a lightened flywheel.
Big turbo + LW FW + big cams = bitch to launch and bog then no traction when boost hits.
lighter flywheels are usually a PITA to put around parking lots in when u have a strong clutch…
Are you upgrading the axles?
if not…
are stock saturn axles going to holdup, against hard launches?
yea i know its in the clutch but i meant the heat it creates from the friction and some slipping.
the car i have i know most of u wont know about its a saturn cause i know how popular saturns are lol.
but yea i will have a 6 puck clutch in the car though too
no im not goin to upgrade they have held up to 400+whp so far and im not goin to be near that for a while plus they would be a one off thing and i dont have money for that
oh and that 6 puck, DON’T GET UNSPRUNG lol that + light flywheel will drive you nuts, trust me!
:word: unsprung puck & 9lb fly will piss you off to no end if You have to street drive the car. lol
you shouldnt be worried about either. you have both
tunerfreek, get the flywheel… and a clutch
I have an 9lb flywheel and a stage 1 clutch, and that too is a PITA for parking lot, putting around driving. Just keep it in mind.
because your car cant use the larger rotational mass of hte flywheel to keep the motor going… so u basically wont move at idle speed around a lot, ull always be slipping the clutch
oh ic i guess i wont get one then
