Turbo vs. Procharger, Lt1

good thread, and a lot of opinions being thrown around as to what can be done and what can’t for this much cash or that much etc… so, my turn to throw in an opinion.
Russian, way cool that you have certain goals and a decent plan as to how to achieve it.

It seems everyone is getting hung up on 1000rwp, 25g’s for this, 10 g’s for that… to do a magazine quality car, with top shelf parts, then yes, you will spend a fortune, but as u have indicated several times you want to start small, and build your way up.

Your choice of car, a B body, while not a good choice for a drag car, but as a 10 sec street car, it will work just fine. sure, it weighs 4300 lbs stock but they can be made to run.

ok,I realize that is exceptional performance, especially on a stock shortblock, but it is an example of what that platform is capable of. To run in the 10’s you do NOT need half the stuff being suggested.(I like shiny new expensive parts as much as the next guy but you do not NEED them.)

To get started:
stock shortblock, cam, stock heads reworked, injectors, fuel pump, headers, loose converter, drag radials.
Then 100-150 shot nitrous. You will run 11’s.
When you are ready for the turbo, you can sell off the cam, headers and nitrous. At that point replace the stock shortblock for a forged rotating assembly. Keep the stock LT1 iron heads and save some cash. They can flow very well and are strong enough.

To do a turbo 10 sec B body:
LT1- 650-700 hp capable no problem for------------------------- $5000
TH400 - basic build w/converter ---------------------------------$1500
8.5 10-bolt stock rear, aftermarket axles, 3.08 gears, good posi,-- $1000
turbo setup–includes plumbing,wastegate,BOV, boost controller—$5000
misc. stuff(tires, traction aids, driveshaft etc.--------------------$2500
-----------------------------------------------------total-----$15,000

By the way, I am in the process of building a similar project for one of my customers,( a streetable twin turbo LT1 in a '95 caprice) with a budget WAY smaller than being thrown around.
