turbocharging my...

haha thanks for the caring reply, the engine is accualy about a foot ahead of where my feet will be, and the head is facing forward… so if ne thing its going to blow away from me.

^^
if your lucky

they have vids of guys racing on mopeds. i’m sure they modded them, you should research to see if they put in a diff engine or just did something to theirs

you are abolsutely right, the intake and exhaust are open at the same time which leads to problems. the issue with turbocharging a 2 stroke gasoline engine is the fact that it doesn’t have any valves. I seriously looked into turbocharging snowmobiles a few years ago. The problem arises when the crank reaches the bottom of the stroke, the exhaust gases exit as the intake charge is forced in. with a turbo at this point in time all the boost will blow the air/fuel mixture right through the engine. it could be compensated for by adding a spring loaded exhaust valve, cable actuated exhaust valve, or changing the trim of the turbo itself to help stop blow through of the mixture but even then issues still arise with the “blow through”/exhaust temps/engine performance. Turbocharging/supercharging 2 stroke snowmobile engines has gained in popularity over the years out west in higher elevations and is now starting to be taken more seriously rather than just a high dollar novelty. there was a company in batavia that sold turbo kits for 2 stroke snowmobile engines until about 2003, not that you have a snowmobile but this seems to be the field where 2 stroke engines are turbocharged most. it can be done on a 2 stroke and made to work successfully but there are obstacles to overcome, it is harder to do than on a 4 stroke and tuning issues will arise. you can set up a remote resorvoir with a recirculating pump to keep the bearings in the turbo oiled, which ive seen work successfully, but on a small application there probably wont be room for that. if you do try it keep every issue in mind, there are far cheaper/easier modifiactions that can be done for a power gain that are guaranteed to work.

…thinking of the vid with sleds swapped with rx7 motor/turbo kits.

go to snowest.com, they have some wild videos i picked up a t660 last year, it isn’t that high performance but one of the best sleds i ever rode

Boost a 50CC motor? If it’s much bigger than this it’d probably take all day to spool…

We built a go ped with a 12 hp mootor on it, it usually tops in at about 40, and its awesome.
