Sucks on that bike getting mashed. At least he’s OK. I’d be pissed. In all honesty, and not that it makes it any better, but I am never behind anything where I can’t see it’s mirrors. Stopped, or moving. I’ll switch lanes if it’s at a stop light on multiple lane road, or hang back far enough so he could see me in the mirrors if it’s only one lane.
