Not really that expensive if you ride your own bike, having said that there are always cheaper alternatives.
The first 2 levels of CSS teaches stuff that are so so so basic, anyone can teach you in one 20 mins classroom session. All trackdays from most (if not all) clubs for new and/or basic riders have free instructions which is equally as good IMO.
