It seems that any mail that I sent from my UB mail is not being delivered. It says ‘sent successfully’ however, they are not arriving. I am receiving email fine as long as it is not from someone using UB’s Webmail. Can anyone confirm if they have the same problem? This is a horribly bad time to be having these problems.
I work for UB…no outages reported.
Check your settings, what mail client do you use?
Off campus you need to enable SSL and use a different port than on campus.
My bet is you have the on campus setting and are trying to send from an external network.
I just tell people to use the off campus smtp settings as they work on and off campus both.
How do I change these settings? I’ve never had a problem before, just started today. I talked with a few other people that seemed to be having similar issues.
I am using firefox on vista.
You use UB’s webmail or an external client (thunderbird, outlook etc…)?
If UBmail…are you using basic, simple or advanced interface?
The setting thing applies only to external clients.
Following is an important announcement from CIT Alert:
We are currently aware of email delivery delays for portions of the Central Email Service.
Inbound email delivery to UB from external sites is functioning normally. Mail delivery for customers using the Central Exchange Service is also functioning normally.
Customers using smtp.buffalo.edu to send email will notice the delivery delay. The cause of the delay was due to an errant server process, which generated several hundred thousand email messages within a short timeframe, filling the email message queues. Technical staff are working to clear the email delivery queues and process the delayed email.
It is anticipated that the email deliveries will be caught up by 7:30pm

Think we got our answer.
Somehow I didn’t get the above memo. LOL
It was in my inbox which of course was delayed in getting to me. How efficient, mail outage means no notification of said outage. hahaha
Ok, thanks for clearing it up…This shit was driving me crazy. I have a group project due tomorrow and this was really causing problems.
UB has been having a lot of mail issues lately. Timeouts, or huge delays (in hours) until a mail will arrive in my inbox.
Interesting. I have 2 accounts at UB (a personal and a shared/team one) and neither have had issues except today. Well…except the other week where there was lots of stuff down including all wireless and what not. I’m a fairly heavy email user as well. You talking just on campus? I’m on the south campus so perhaps north have had issues. Dunno.
From my Ingram Micro days I can attest to how just one chain email can wreck havoc on a mail server as it makes it’s way through peoples contact lists.
Different servers? Student and Staff? To anyone using webmail, I know with our functionality and options seem to be better in IE than Safari or FF. We’ve been having problems with emails being sent multiple times.
