Where’s the “like” button ^
They aren’t using it like how tweens use Twitter. They use it to broadcast information to the world. Twitter is better for news propagation than print, radio, and television.
If that is true, then they were hacked more than just their Twitter account. It’s not like the US Government stores information of soldiers families on their Twitter page.
I take it you follow friends that consistently post photos of their food and their beer? If you follow the right lists, you can learn about events much faster and from sources than are actually on the scene. Even online media, you can use twitter to keep updated with recent news and other events well before big media picks up anything. Schools and stuff have it when they were shootings that reported it well before any major outlet and even with attacks over seas and events, the live feeds on twitter we 100x more informative.
As for the attack, most stuff posted was from non DoD network computers. You can’t get to twitter from true internal servers as the DoD has their own internet. It is more embarrassing than anything and any documents they leaked were off the DoD network and on general PCs so were probably slides declassified and passed around.

I figured tv/radio/online websites was enough to get the information I needed.
