The MB is auto only

The MB will also have a higher ownership cost (massive brakes!!)

M5 is significantly slower

M5 is on an older body style

I’d give my left nut for an M5. The AMG has never done anything for me, mainly because if I’m going to shell out a ton of money on a fast car I’d damn well better be able to change my own gears. I don’t care if it’s slower or an older body style. It’s still fast and sexy by anyone sane person’s standards. As far as driving fun goes, no clutch no care.

You don’t want an E55. Those brakes are so weird. I would rather poke my eyes with a tuning fork than have to drive one of those for any length of time.
