Using an old oil tank as a BBQ smoker [smoker build thread]

actually, I’m just gonna marinate them anyway. if we dont cook them at frys, I’ll do them up at sterling, cause that FGGT drew will be home tomorrow…

Your bromance with drew is much worse then Brendans…or anyone elses jebus…

easy

Wow that thing is tiny

You can’t even get a whole cow in there

55 gallons of tiny

^^^ nice DIY smoker! I like it!

Sorry I couldn’t come help move it… Can I still have some cookies?

My morning was spent at Home Depot getting supplies, then building 16’ of shelving where the oil tank used to be.

Once wifey goes back to work at 3 I’m going to cut the door out of the tank with a circular saw and metal cutting disk, then clean it and burn it.

It’s just paint on the back. I’ll scrape that off.

I still need a good way to cut 4 6" holes and 1 8" hole in sheet metal…

shitty duct placement…

That pic makes it look like a headless metal cow.
How cool would it be if you put a cow head on the front (as pictured)
then smoked your meat in a metal cow carcase?

Man can i help, i want in on the meat meet

You bet. Got a tool that’ll make short work of four 6" holes and one 8" hole in sheet steel?

Anyhow, progress:

Layout the main door:

Start cutting with my trusty circular saw (the entire tank was smoking while I cut, it was awesome. I was wearing FRC from head to toe):

Door cut. Notice the absorbent kitty litter I had poured in ahead of time:

Cleanup time. Mix kitty litter with old broom dipped in hot simple green & water, stirred not shaken. Worked like a charm. Don’t ask where the oily water went. :scott:

I opted for a lovely 4’ piano hinge for both it’s stability and stunning good looks. If VW faggots can put rusty shit on a shiny car and it’s cool then I’m beyond cool putting shiny shit on an oily smoker.

And the final cleanup. BURN BABY BURN!

Still have to cut the holes for the smoke/heat in both the barrel and the smoker, cut the vent in the smoker, cut a vent in the side of the barrel, and cut holes for the rerod that will become the grilling surface. Grilling on re-rod is manlier than anything you have ever done.

i got mig welder portable torches, plus my dads a tv repairman he’s got a bitchin set of tools= we can fix it

Looks good fry.
maybe take a blending pad/flap disc to the whole thing and make it shiny/polished as fuck? :o (minus the inside!)

Will it be removable for cleaning? I’ll see if I can find a 4 and 6" hole saw for a drill.

The alcohol burn was fun. :pedo:

It’s clean now. Just gotta find some time and probably borrow a plasma cutter from HRK or someone to cut the vent pipe holes, then install the grilling surface, then smoke a lot of meat. Gonna be a couple of weeks now.

Just a suggestion, but once you get it all finished up, may be a decent idea to put it on wheels(if possible).

This thread is motivating me to build something similar.

air ride equipped?

Far too much effort. I envision myself using this once, maybe twice, and then selling it and/or dragging it to the curb.
