Using an old oil tank as a BBQ smoker [smoker build thread]

nohomo

there i fixed it, its no longer gay

lol so I just got this email from my mother in law (she has no idea of my smoker plans)

Freeman Homestead called. They have extra packets of ground beef and fillet mignon ( $12.50 per pound), turkeys ( avail. Oct), half pigs.

If anyone wants to order , lemme know.

I’m not doing organic grass fed meat in smoker-level quantities, but I thought the timing was entertaining.

Anyhow, I still need a barrel.

You’ve got my number. I’m good with any possible excuse to get out of the house.

I can get you cheap black stovepipe and the inline dampers.

Oh and

Like how cheap? I’m planning on using the cheapest HVAC pieces I can find at home depot, even just as a proof-of-concept type of thing. I’m going to need like 5 or 6 6" flanges and 4-6 feet of 6" pipe.

I’ll let you know. Thanks!

I’ll be back at work in a little while. I’ll PM you.

Sorry about the barrel…
Anyone know of any food processing type places around here that might use a lot of cooking oils?

maybe someplace like superior lubricants might have some empties they would sell cheap?

The progression of this thread had been phenomenal.

I have yet to call OGSI or hear back from my buddy at Linde. Either place oughta have a clean one since they’re production facilities.

Barrel acquired. Thank you Linde.

This thread just wreaks of WIN!

it wreaks?

I’ll eat a pig’s wreactum if you smoke it right?

eww?

I WANT TO EAT RIBS OUT OF A 100 YEAR OLD OIL TANK ALREADY, FUCK.

Yeah. This rules. I’m down to help if you need some extra hands or beer.

I’m taking tomorrow off to build shelves in the basement where the tank used to be and get started on this. If all goes well we might be able to have a smoke/drink out on Saturday. Anyone in?

I’ll have to talk to my entertainment coordinator though. She’s cool with the project scope, still gotta talk schedule though. :nerd:

lol
Thread title needs to be changed.

This is no longer a disposal issue, its a procurment/value added issue.

You know I am in FOR SURE!

This is a capital improvement!
