The fins on the top of the valve cover, are they just decrative or do they serve a function? Ie:heat dispursment. If not im going to grind them off.

I want to custom paint an extra one i have and even though it probably will not go on the car, if it turns out well enough i may.

I assume you mean SOHC since its the only KA with ridges, technicaly they could provide some small heat reduction similar to a heat sync. I am sure if you remove them it wont hurt anything the casting is thich enough that you could I am preaty sure.
