Not sure why you think it will be wiped or memory holed. It will remain huge news there, but as far the US is concerned it’s not really our problem. It’s a tragedy, I feel for them, but it’s not the United State’s responsibly to fix every natural disaster that happens around the globe.
I think the severity of such events (like the Beirut bombing etc.) are dramatically understated to make it easier to memory hole.

This is actually the end game for socialism. No one cares about building standards or maintenence so the cities fall in to decay and then an earthquake comes along and it’ll take years just to clean up the mess.
One one hand i think that this could cause another influx of VZ migrants into the US… but on the other hand most people who had the wherewithall to build a better life have already left.
