Anything out there that will take advantage of the quad core processors some of us are running?
I’m using DVDSanta… and it isn’t slow, but it also isn’t tasking my system at all.
I’d love to have something use more than 2% CPU and encode the video that much faster. I’m burning them in no time at all, but the encoding takes longer than I think it should.
I know there are 10 threads asking about encoding software, and I’ve read them, but does any of that software utilize multiple cores?
Ux64.
FYI - 700meg takes about 25 minutes to encode.
Just got DivX… and I’m looking at x264 as well. DivX seems to be hitting everything… CPU usage shot up to 60-70%… sweet.
That thing was quick… but I forgot the crank up the quality. Now… it is set on high… but I don’t feel like burning anymore today. 5/day is good enough for now
I have it set on TIME CRITICAL… so that should be the most intense encoder setting right?
I’m doing 2 encoders at once now… so all is good.
Thanks guys.
EDIT: K, cracked… I’m now encoding and burning in about 15 minutes… maybe less. 30-35% CPU being used… which is good to see…
Encoding is the process of transforming information from one format into another. The opposite operation is called decoding.
Decoding is the reverse of encoding, which is the process of transforming information from one format into another.
arent they the same based on those two definitions?
I always thought they were just the opposite when talking about 2 specific formats. Ex) AVI to MP4 is encoding but when you go back to AVI its decoding. If you go from AVI to MP4 and then to FLV its encoding twice. I dunno…doesnt seem like theres ever been a major distinction to me.
