It’s all a moot point anyways since the op stated the car will never be tracked but that thin piece of fiberglass does a hell of a lot more to keep shit from flying into the car than nothing at all. I’ve drove both open cockpit and closed cockpit cars with fiberglass roofs and would take the enclosed car anytime, getting hit with shredded tires, hot fluids and body pieces sucks ass. The vert may be better in a roll over but realistically the guy most likely isn’t rolling his viper at the track, he is slapping it off a wall or stuffing it into the tire barriers.
Again, the point here isnt Coupe Vs. Verts, the point is that you can configure the car any way you want, with a roof if you so choose, but there is not a factor other than cosmetics here that REALLY matters, and I hope the OP’s friend takes that into account. The fact that it is a Vert is the completely moot point, since you can effectively make it just as safe as a coupe with a roll bar, or safer than a coupe without one.

BTW 99 GTS ACR would be my choice.
I LOVE the C6 Z for both looks and performance (and I chose it in this pole because I don’t care for the looks of vert vipers) but 99 GTS’s were IMHO the best looking vipers (next to the BRAND NEW ACR).
Not as much power or displacement as the SRT10 but perfect candidate for twin turbos down the road
