Thats cuz Ford got it right

What about the Ford GT? Your friend gave that car any thought? I don’t really see why he is so hung up on getting eather a Viper or a Vette.

not a fan of either one but the ford gt if he has the money all the way…it is a rare car in our parts, not too many people have them…

Ellis Seven

you guys are such fggt humpers

i guess since im a honda guy… your friend should buy an NSX

It was supposed to be ironic, that was the point. :suicide:

Fuck it. Buy a Z06, Swap in a non turbo SHO motor and hit it with a 200 shot stock block :picard:

GTs are definitely bad-ass, but you won’t touch one for less than $100k, Big difference between spending $45k on a car and $110+

TO stay OT, Drive both then decide. Like Joe said though, if he want’s to track it, they won’t allow verts.

Viper all day long.

Can we vote for an older viper? RT or GTS would get my vote all day long… but when its SRT10 vs C6 Z06 I have to go with the vette. Just a matter of taste, I haven’t driven either.

Budget man. I dont think he has more than $45k to play with. He might, but I think the budget is around there. $40k-45. And this car is def just a weekend driver. No tracking or racing of any kind. He usually doesnt put more than 2-3k miles on them a season. At most.

It depends on what you want to do. Like everyone has said before.

If it is a street cruiser, Viper. If you’re going to track it (a lot) then I’d vote for the 'vette.

FYI, there are quite a few racing bodies such as Viper Days and VRL, and almost all tracks have made an exception for tracking the Vert SRT-10 due to the design of the car. As long as it has a roll bar, which there are non-intrusive versions of, it will be allowed on the track. [some tracks require a hard-top as well or allow them instead]

I deal with quite a few Vert SRT’s that track regularly at Mid-Ohio, Calabogie, Watkins, etc.

So far as safety is concerned, a Coupe is going to offer you almost no additional protection over a Vert, and a roll-bar equipped Vert is going to be MUCH safer than a Coupe. A coupe roof only has a single 1"x2" steel tube running behind the seats for hatch support. When it comes to chassis stiffness, there is also no problem on the Vert. The SRT-10 verts are almost 50% stiffer than the previous generation coupes- and those were already some of the stiffest street car chassis around to start with. You can jack up a corner of a vert SRT until the car can teeter on one wheel, and still open the doors without a problem.

Come on now, while the vert may be as strong as you claim don’t act like there are no benefits of having a roof over your head, getting hit with rocks, rubber and other debris sucks.

I voted vette just because I like the new z06 better based on personal preference. If the guy just wants a car other people will think is cool either would work. While the viper will be less common normal people still think vettes are sweet.

And are you forgetting that the roof is fiberglass, it was never designed to be load bearing or as a chassis reinforcement, and will likely shatter on impact like so many of them have? If there wasn’t any debris to hit you before you flipped over, there will be after! Have you ever seen a rolled viper with an intact roof? Its pretty uncommon. I like the coupe just as much as the next guy, but it is simply NOT a major factor in anything other than the cosmetic department on these cars.

And see my reference to a HARD TOP. If you want a hard top, they are readily available to add, and are bolted to the car.

If you honestly think a coupe will not offer you any additional protection over a vert with roll bars at the track you obviously have no business being at the track.

maybe thats the case with most cars, but doesnt seem that way with the viper. he made a pretty good argument

I can count on a single hand the amount of people I’ve seen with arm tethers in a car at the track. And none of those have been in Viper street cars. Good luck when the top rips apart on your vert while you’re upside down and you lose an arm. The safety aspect is staggering.

And if you honestly think you have any business being in this thread, you should probably just find the nearest gun, put it in your mouth, and pull the trigger. Please.

Back up your bullshit with facts, I deal with these cars every day. You… dont.

A Coupe roof wont even hold up the fucking car you moron. So… which would YOU rather have? Roll bars that WILL, or a roof that WONT? Personally, I hope you choose the latter.

Regardless, did you miss the part where the Vert’s with rollbars get a HARD TOP TOO? Wowwee! Think of that! All bases COVERED, and effectively a coupe with a roll bar. Huh… mind blowing!

The whole point of this nonsense isn’t Coupes Vs. Verts, the point is that you can configure the car in any way you want, and nothing other than cosmetics is set (for the most part), so it shouldn’t be a factor in deciding between the two cars. Obviously you can put a Roll bar in a coupe too, but that doesnt really have anything to do with the OP’s dilemma, now does it?
