all i know is i would be [smafer]FUCKING HEATED BRO[/SMAFER] if i paid 10k for a car and i was driving along and the window just up and fell into the door.
srsly, i would be pissed. and that shit happens ALL THE TIME to mk4’s
a girl i work with bought a mk4 2.0 and that happened. she got all of them replaced under warrenty, but someone broke into her car while she was on chippaworst and the shop replacing the glass used the old clips, and her window fell into her door a few weeks after it was replaced. autohaus refuses to do warrenty work on a car 2x, so she is fucked. not cool for a poor college kid who needs reliable transportation.
also, cel’s for retarded shit you can never figure out, the fit and finish of most 2.0’s feel as bad as a honda, interiors of mk4’s smell liek crayons and i cant fucking handle it, coil packs, wheelbearing, e brake cable locking in place when its cold, door handle locks freazing when its cold and fucking locking you out of your car anytime its under 25*out, ect…
although, my mk3 never left me stranded once. as abused and ill-kept that car was, not once did it leave me stranded somewhere. but i can also say the same thing for both of my hondas i have owned.
no its not, its the adhesive they use to bond parts of the interior together. it smells like crayons and i cant fucking handle it. the smell is even worse in cloth interior’d cars
Let’s evaluate some things in this thread. It seems that most of the VW hate stems from MK4s. MK4s were IMO the worst Golfs/Jettas of all time. They had all of the issues previously mentioned.
One of the things that really upsets me about MK4s is the “high quality” interior that MK4 owners all seem to love. They used really soft materials on the parts that you touch frequently, so when they were new, they felt very expensive and nice. As they get slightly old, the soft stuff peels off and looks terrible.
Engine choices were odd too.
2.0 gas was a complete waste. It got lousy fuel economy for the power it had. Typically 1.8Ts got better economy and had much more power. Why bother with this boat anchor?
1.8T, these had their issues, but were easy to bump power up a noticeable amount. They had issues, but if they were maintained and not heavily modded, they held up pretty well.
VR6 was a neat choice. They got bad fuel economy around town, but did fairly well on the highway. There were 2 different versions, 12V and 24V. Personally, I’d go 24v if I wanted a gas MK4
TDI, hands down the best choice. no pesky coilpacks to go wrong, 45-50 MPG and easy to bump power a decent amount without spending a lot of money. Completely worth the extra cost.
Going back to what I orignallly said, the MK4 is why VW has such a black eye. Personally, I think MK1s and 2s were the best VW ever offered. MK3 was the begining of the downfall.
OK, so 89 is like $0.10 more a gallon, which equals about $1.50 a tank more to fill up. Is the $1.50 a tank worth the extra 65-100HP? (depending on tune)
