W9S 1098-E BS (School Loan)

Has anybody heard of this before?

Ok, here’s my deal. I re consolidated my student loans with citi last year. I’ve been paying them, racked up nearly 2 grand in interest for the 2008 tax year to deduct.

So i’m waiting around for them to send the 1098e form out…

I end up calling them today, they say they will not send a 1098e form for this tax year because I did not send them a W9S form by december 15th, 2008.

At this point I flip out on the girl, she tells me she will send a letter that I can use to claim on my taxes, but it will not be reported to the IRS.

That sounds shady as hell, if the IRS does not have a copy of the 1098, and I claim it, that sounds like a red flag.

Every other lender automatically sends the stupid 1098e form, I have another loan, that I paid 300 in interest on this past year, they sent it automatically.

Anybody else dealt with this?

When you log into your account, there might be a section for it. I have sallie mae and they have it in my account log in. Also it for automatically be forwarded to the IRS. The 1098 forms that you get from them via mail or printout are your copy (atleast what it says when i look at mine)

Both of my student loans were on the website for downloading.

Side note, I racked up just shy for $4,000 paid in interest on student loans. Ughhh.

i got mine in the mail yeasterday,
