I loved having a “tough” dog in my old neighborhood…when I wasn’t home, I knew that my dog would keep my wife safe.
how do pit-mixes deal with aggression…all these shelters around here have soooooooooooooooo many pit mixes, I mean I don’t need straight breed, I just need short hair and somewhat calm dog…
I’d avoid a Pit-mix…
While Pitbulls are very powerful dogs and often display agression towards other dogs, purebred Pits were bred for several hundred years to NOT display aggression towards people. Yeah, my Pit will bite someone who breaks into my house; but if she ever got out (which wouldn’t happen) she wouldn’t attack random people.
When you mix a Pit’s strength, stamina, agility, and raw power with another breed which tends to be more aggressive towards people, you’re asking for trouble.
My opinion only.
All pit’s eat and play all the time and is the only reason i am not set on one…

Like I said, they are an extremely energetic breed.
I’ve seen some really cool boxers and they tend to be more mellow like you said…hmmmmmmmmmmmmm I’ll start looking around more for them i guess
Yeah, Boxers really are great dogs…like I said, for me I prefer my Pit. But I would recommend a Boxer to anyone; and especially someone with your criteria.

i like my german shepherd. i got her from the animal rescue league and she is about 60 lbs. we believe her growth was stunted because of malnutrition and abuse.
she is a great dog though and loves you non-stop. if you would brush them everyday in spring and fall, the shedding isn’t that much of an issue.

i love jack russell pups…but he doesnt want a high strung SOB. those dogs are nuts. In my 25 years, me and my family have owned probably 8 dobermans. Every one of them were wonderful dogs. Very obediant, very smart, and not nutso. If i was allowed to have any dog here, without breed restriction, id definitely get a dob puppy. good luck in the search!!!
