Dogs

My son is turning 4 and I want to get him a puppy / dog… Does anyone know somewhere local to get one and what are good kinds to be around kids? I dont want a little pussy ankle biter but I dont want soemthing thats going to bite my kid or my girl ether. Mygirl is 110lbs and I want something she can control and walk if and when she takes it for a walk. I just purchased a house with 3+ acres so land isnt a problem.

Post up pics of your dogs / dogs and what you like or dislike about them.

Thanks

golden retriever, lab or even a beagle would prolly be your best bet with a kid,i got 3 little ankle biters so i aint postin pix lol

I agree. Golden Retriever, Lab, etc.

My parents breed Welsh Pembroke Corgi’s. If you are interested let me know.

i like the look of the mini pincher but i need something my son can rough around with and something that will chew the shit out of someone that dosent belong at my hosue

Thanks for the info though

Welsh Pembroke Corgi looks cool but not my cup of tea, thanks anyway man.

Rob we wen’t though this a year and a half ago because I had a 2 year old son… We ended up getting a Boxer and he’s a great dog… He has tons of energy… Great dog… Very sweet… Once he sees you’re okay with a person, he turns into a marshmallow.

:rofl at the pic… some boxers act stupid but are really one of the smartest dogs out there

Lab as stated. They are smart dogs and great in family settings.

I had a German Shepherd (pure bred) from when I was like 8 till about 21. Good looking dogs and very smart as well. I’m sure he’d be fine with your kid as long as you got him as a pup.

Mine developed a hip problem and within a month he was gone.

great info man, pic is cool too!! Where did you get him / her and how old was he / she when you them? Was the dog hard to potty train? Does it tear your house up when your at work for the day?

Thanks again for the guidance

Thank you for the info and I am sorry to hear of your loss. Thats another thing I am doing a lot of research on because my son will be 4 and I dont want him to have a dog for 3 - 4 years and have to be faced with death. I know its a part of life and we would deal with it but it would be nice to get a dog that has a 10 year life expectency…

Thank you again

Well, I say go to your local SPCA then and see if there isn’t a dog you can rescue.

That is how I got my dog. He is an American Bulldog/Boxer mix. He is seriously the best dog I have ever had in my life.

He loves the water haha: He will go down to the beach and stare at the water for hours trying to catch fish.

We actually got him from a breeder in Rotterdam, full papers all that shit. I can’t remember her name, but if I do, I’ll pass it on… There is a website out there that gives breeders in the area for a specific breed He was 12 weeks when we picked him up. He wasn’t bad to potty train, the vet said crate training is a great way to do it… We hadn’t crate trained our past dog, so we gave it a shot… It worked out well… He doesn’t stay in his crate now all the time, but I have to tell you… If there’s times when he just wants to lay down and not be bothered, he’ll go in there and chill out.

We had him for like 13 or 14 years. He was definitely old. It happens, but yeah, I definitely agree with you on finding a dog that will live for a long time so your kid doesn’t have to face that situation until he’s a young adult.

Google is full of info on this.

Not being a dick, I mean its actually really well covered online. A whole bunch of articles from dog experts and parents.

Been researching dogs for 3 years in anticipation of getting one…someday…

…dick

Shit!

I have had three golden retrievers… best dogs by far IMO

That was dick… And I did do a bunch of reading… But also took the opportunity to visit friends with different dogs and get to meet them around the family. I don’t think it’s unreasonable to ask the average Joe what there opinion is vs. using experts, dog breeders, etc opinions.

My mom and my brother work (volunteer) for a organization called the Animal Support Project. All of their dogs are rescued from somewhere or given to them. The only requirements to adopt are that your home looks safe and you have a fence around your yard. They do home visits as well so you can try the dog out before you commit to adopt. If you’re interested I can probably get you a list of the dogs they have right now.

That would be great man, let me know.
