So I’m watching this video: https://www.ted.com/talks/ethan_nadelmann_why_we_need_to_end_the_war_on_drugs
and it got me thinking… Do the people put in jail for marijuana possession become free once it is legalized?

no, what they did wasn’t legal at the time. plus if we are talking distribution it’s impossible they could have sold it and collected taxes legally.
I do expect a lot of leniency with any parole etc.
Man, imagine getting sentenced then the next day what you did was made legal.
I’m pretty sure when they passed it here in CO, people with pending cases were let off if it fell within the legalization laws.
Its a second motion to release non violent offenders who had less than certain amounts but it doesn’t count as a free pass for people who were convicted. I think some states had seperate legislation to decriminalize it before it was offically legal and allowed certain crimes to be released. The ones that got released tho were typically only on a few week terms for small possession.
You guys should read the book “High Price” by Dr. Carl Hart, excellent book about society and drugs.
Secondly what the media doesn’t report is the negative consequences of the legalization of marijuana. My father’s best friend is a Sheriff in Denver. He can’t believe the mess it’s made of so many people, high all the time, losing their jobs, more accidents, no motivation, and a rise in the increase of experimentation with more powerful substances. He said in his own opinion it isn’t worth the extra tax revenue. He also lost his own son. He didn’t die, but after it became legal he went from smoking (illegally) a couple times of week before bed to before work, during work, after work, eventually losing his home, his job, and turning his back on his family. The last he has seen of his son was months ago, he now works as a “freelance handyman” and lives with three other men, all four of them who now use hard drugs.
Apprently the weed that you can get isn’t like the stuff that used to be around. The shit is as potent and strong as it gets, for some stuff going around 700-1000$ an ounce (for those of you that aren’t familiar, an ounce may trend around 300-400). It doesn’t mellow people out, it makes them paranoid and schizophrenic (spelling??) as well as causing hallucinations.
Of course that is an extreme case, and people can control themselves, but there is no denying the negative consequences and how the media hides them.
Hey now, we need to support the Prison Industrial Complex and imprison as many harmless people we can.
A majority of people in jail on possession charges would still be sentenced even if it was legalized. People with small amounts of marijuana for personal use don’t get throw in jail, it’s the drug dealers who have huge amounts to sell. Even if marijuana is legalized, you still have to have verified sellers, you can’t just have bricks in your garage that you sell to people as they walk by.
Unless you live in the rez.
Thanks for the opinions and extreme cases, but I like facts.
AGREED
Enjoy your Faux News, I mean Fox News
EDIT: Didn’t you read the first sentence? It goes unreported. Just like Amherst is “the second safest city in America”. Because the people getting paid to make those statistics have been “swayed” a certain way ($$$$).
Just like there’s no life outside of the Earth
There’s no Area 51
There’s so much shit we’ll never know about.
So congrats on reading the most popular sources of information that goes to the masses and being a sheep. I’m not saying they’re incorrect, but dig a little deeper than what the huffington post has to say.
EDIT #2 : are you also a Michael Brown Supporter? Hands up don’t shoot! LOL
He just posted links from MSNBC and Denver Post which are pretty far left
No.
for every “drugs ruined this guys life” I can give you an extremely successful person who recreationally uses drugs from occasionally to often. Engineers, cooks, construction workers.
People absolutely ruin their lives with alcohol, so it should probably be illegal too, right?
I can’t stand it when people declare others “sheep” for opposing their view. Well I think people who don’t think like me are sheep then. We all must be sheep by this logic/ :tinfoilhat:
[sarcasm]no wai. they must be high and confused[/sarcasm]
Uh, you have a lot of “facts” wrong in this post which isn’t really surprising I guess given what you normally post.
In other news lots of places in Colorado are working on growing weed with low/0 THC and high levels of CBD for medical use.
I usually find out how much research people do. If someone sees news only on major media outlets and forms their opinions, they are pretty narrow minded. People need to read a lot of sources. There is so much info out there and access to real time things happening. People are so uneducated and have this whole view of how what they read must be honest by big media to push their own views.
We have the patriot act being used against drug crimes now too so I feel this fully legal movement is still a long way out. Do some research on how pot became illegal and you will see the uphill struggle that is in place from the powers that be.
At this point the debate is worthless and over in the next 20 years weed will end up being legal in every state
I’d say 10 years and the same for gay marriage. what sucks is that it won’t be until about the time I die until Atheists are the Majority in America.
