Warning Toyota SUV/truck owners!

I have a 06 4Runner I bought certified used. It had steel valve stem caps on it that corroded onto the stem. I used a nut driver to break them loose, Very light pressure twisted the stem off. Tire pressure sensor is incorporated onto the stem, and 186 dollars to replace one!! Be sure your vehicle has plastic caps!!

My arse hurts!

shouldn’t that be taken care of by the dealer if it’s certified used (aka still under warranty)?

… did they originally come on the truck?? I mean they could’ve just been cheap metal stem caps.

Get some skulls or some dice, stop the nonsense.

mountaineers and some aviators have them too. pain in the ass.

and don’t use other metal caps, always switch to plastic

thats pretty much any car on the road now. just about everything has air sensors. not brand specific, this happens on all of them.

It will not be covered by toyota. They stated that it is a corrosion issue which isn’t covered by warranty.

106 bux for the sensor, 79 dollars to install and program the vehicle.

The stem is aluminum and very soft. Poor design on multiple points. German cars have replacable stems on the sensors. Which is a 6 dollar item. Mine is molded one piece design that you can not fix.

yup toyota are soooooo great.

That’s ok, Dill valve stems(short rubber) made in most of 06-07 were recalled because they tear off while your drive down the highway if it makes you feel any better, atleast yours hold air to begin with!

Anyone a Toyota service tech that wants to reprogram my truck for a few bux on the side?

gm’s have the same problem. my buddy is a tech at bowser and had one that the owner broke all 4 on an SUV. that guy took it in the arse.
