washing machine repair? v.drum brake

I think the drum brake on my washer is shot. Its a 2 year old maytag, and the drum slips while its agitating making a loud creaking sound.

Anyone know what these things are like to repair?

not sure what a drum brake is but im assuming its within the gearbox??

either way probly better to buy a new machine

It sounds like it is either a belt or a wigwag. Probably belt.
Top loader right?

Yeah, its a top loader. What I’ve gathered is wrong is that the brake that holds the drum in place when its washing, and lets go of the drum for the spin cycle, is bad or needs adjustment, as the drum actually turns a bit with each agitation, slipping against the brake, making the noise. I’d rather not spend $500 on another washer if I can fix this one cheaply, its only 2 years old.

everything is contained within the gearbox, if the brake is slipping after only 2yrs id be willing to bet the seals are shot in both the drum and the gearbox itself
