Another one saved from the smelter. 1950’s era Benrus CE13. Polished the case & crystal, minute / hour / second hands, cleaned and tuned up. Running quite well. Blued the plate screws for a little more snap. Strap on order…

Is there some place to get sweet deals on old mechanical watches i don’t know of?

Does a fisherman ever talk about his sweet fishing spots?

Lol

Are you actually looking for old watches to work on or just being comical?

Not looking to work on them per say. I’m not opposed to tinkering, but if I can’t get the back off of an Invicta diver, I should not take on detail work without much more forethought.

I’m just not in the know for finding finding deals on things.
As for fishing spots… Fisherman love to talk about spots. It’s not like anyone can actually eat more than 0.05 oz of wild caught fish in NY anyway

Volume is on ebay but I struggle to find sub $100 items for restoration. Dial quality is probably the first thing I look for. If you see a restored example I post, or a build watch you’re interested in, let me know. I can’t keep them all. I plan on cruising garage sales and flea markets this summer.

Depending on what you want, watchuseek forum seems to have a steady flow of product from $100-50,000. Some decent pricing can be found there.

Chrono24 is decent

Curiosity got the best of me and the price made a good argument. It’s interesting but I don’t think I’ll use it much…

What is that?

Fresh off the bench…

Sub $ 30 smart watch. Very basic model.

Services and waiting for lubrication to settle in. New crystal should come this week so I can wrap it up.

Bought myself a nice little daily automatic on vacation. Nothing crazy but the PRX is a classic watch, for a nice price.

I bought a Tissot from someone on here years ago. Regret selling it. Have a vintage one in the works right now.

Thought I had my first Rolex today. On vacation in Genoa Italy, stopped into the local Ads as I always do. Guy says he has no datejusts but when I told him I was looking for a sky dweller he said oh I have 2 of those in steel. He comes out with a green dial Jubilee and a blue dial oyster. Im like I’ll take the blue dial. I have the thing on my wrist, looking up the exchange rate, the whole 9.

I look at my wife and was like holy shit! Finally after 4 years. We both thought it was in the bag. He then says hang on a second I have to ask my manager if it’s ok…. We wait about a minute. He comes down stairs shaking his head. He said I’m sorry my manager said no, she wants to save them for local customers.

We’re both like WTF! I tried like hell to work a deal but couldn’t in the end and walked out empty handed. Fucking sucks. I’ve been on the waitlist for 4 years with Reeds and nothing!
