sat with a friend of a friend in Vegas. He inherited an old IWC pocket watch and sent it back to Shauffhausen for servicing.

IWC sent back a letter stating the movement was genuine and from like 1866 which was older than they have complete records for. The case was not original but a US-made case from somewhere around the 1930’s.

pretty wild.

Have you considered doing pocket watch conversions

I guess none of them would be autos at that age.

Well, for the member I purchased this from here, probably a decade ago, its finally restored. Getting the case re-plated (gold) took longer than expected. Life and other projects got in the way of me completing the movement. I will most likely add an authentic Omega crown and looking into a different strap / bracelet.

I have 4 marriage watches. Love the concept and they wear well but are very susceptible to damage. No shock springs.

I stopped into the new Reeds Jewelers in Syracuse who just opened up a Rolex boutique and they had a platinum Daytona on display. Never seen one in person, this thing was HEAVY, holy shit. Like a 5 pound weight on my wrist.

I asked, not for sale to me at least. I remember when these were going for $125,000 just a couple years ago.

Tag says 85. Offer 50.

$60 cash. It’s a watch.

I was in Miami all last week and, in mid-beach, i went to a burger joint. both guys after me in line had precious metal Daytonas on.

One of the guys had the rainbow diamond bezel and the watch was very dirty… DD’ing 6-figure watches is awesome.

As long as its insured.

Yea that’s the thing, at what point do you feel safe wearing that watch? It’s one thing to be insured, but some criminals will kill you just for the watch. Hell I won’t even wear my datejust to some places.

I have a comprehensive insurance policy….

so when i first landed in Laurderale the week before last i walked by a cigar shop at 11pm down off the A1A and ran into some Canadian guys that i know from up here who were sitting with some local guys.

All we wearing either solid gold Rolex Day/Date or precious metal Pateks.

I asked them how long they rolled around like that and if they had ever had any security issues ever. All were 50+ years old and had been rolling like this for decades and never had an issue ever. They say just stay out of certian neighborhoods and you’ll be fine.

I had the exact same concerns but down there pretty much everyone has these things on thier wrists. Much more common than up here.

Got my hands on this a couple weeks ago. MEXA with an ETA 2391 movement. Haven’t seen such a well preserved dial like this in awhile. Running nicely.
