Watch Crew: What to buy?

That’s what I’m thinking. My wrists are too small that I think leather with the 42mm face would look silly.

Just picked up my first “nice” watch…probably nothing compared to what a handful of you watch nuts have, but the first decent one i’ve ever had, and i have a question.

I bought an Invicta Chronograph watch from their Speedway collection…retails at $375, but i got an INSANE deal on it so i figured it was time to buy a nice watch.

My question is this…when i went to get it sized and have a few links taken out of the bracelet…the guy at the jewelry repair store took all 3 links out from the same side, so now the actual clamp is somewhat off center…is this what he was supposed to do? Or should he have taken 2 off one side, one off another, trying to keep the latch itself as centered as possible and keep each side of the bracelet part as equal lengthed as possible?

I just got it today and LOVE it…i’ll put up pics when i’m home from work. Or, if somebody wants to find and post up a pic for me, it’s model #9212.

edit:

LIke i said…nowhere near the baller factor as most of the watches on here, but for a first “nice” watch for somebody who’s not a watch enthusiast in the least, i’m completely satisfied

I’ve been tossing around the idea of this guy recently, just waiting to hear back from my pops to see if he can get it through his business:

invicta is like a poor man’s nice watch. some of their designs are really nice, others are just repulsive. i’m not a fan of gold on watches, but yours looks decent.

I just bought this a couple of weeks ago. Nothing fancy, but I liked the simple elegance of it. Anyone like Hugo Boss?

:thankyou:

no, he should have taken 2 links out of one side and 1 out of the other, then adjusted it (if possible) at the clasp. if youd like, i could take care of that for you, easy fix.

pm me if youre interested

Not too bad of a deal I guess, lowest google price is $379.

I’d be wary of buying a Movado online. There are probably 10,000 fakes for every real one. Think to yourself “How many people do I know that have a real or fake one?” I’m sure you can think of 5 people at least.

Is that site legit? I’ve seen it before with other decent watches at astromically low prices and thought “knock offs” and kept looking elsewhere.

Yes,they’re a woot spin off.I’ve ordered a few items from them and they’ve all arrived within a week. The TomTom GPS deal they had for $49 arrived in a couple of days. They have some mixed reviews,I’ve had good luck with them though.

Here is a review I found on resellerratings…

(>good afternoon, i recieved my movado watch today . and was elated to find out
it was not a fake, which was a concern being this was my first real internet
purchase via credit card. I saw the location of your headquarters and being
from NY myself i said oh no, it has to be a fake for the price they offered,
but i called an authorized dealer and she ran off the serial number with me and
i jumped for joy. To say the least this was a very positive experience and you
have a permanent customer for life!!!. Only issue i have is that the
warranty card says it has to be impreinted signed and dated for it to be valid,
and unfortunately the card is bare. Is there any fix to this?? please let me
know promptly . Thank You again!!!) this is a letter i sent today, and recieved a immediate response with a solution, . this was a great experience and thye get a 9 out of 10 in my book!!!

ok… not exactly tired of my ORIS XXL, but definately looking to step it up.

i wear it every day, including when working on my car or swimming in the ocean…lol

going to seek out a current model Fortis B-42 Stratoliner

It’s larger than the Speedmaster (42mm vs. 39-40mm) and has the day-date i need… other features i need are actual numbers on the dial and for those numbers to be lumed and lumed well (my ORIS doenst have lume on the numbers but is 44mm and i love the size)… the Stratoliner has it all actually… i went to La Swiss yesterday to try one on but they havent hit the shelves in Canada yet, only in larger markets in the US i guess.

Or a Kobold Phantom… it doesnt have the numbers on the dial but i think i cam make that concession for a US made piece. The pics here are of a limited run, 1 of 50, that went on ebay for not too bad a price actually.

hoping i can find someone who has one of these or something similar and will do a trade + cash.

Now that i review this post i def. am leaning towards the Stratoliner… It’s a really interesting dial with the silver registers and the off-placed day… so rugged.

I like the Fortis more than that Kobold Bing. Here is a picture of my most recent addition.

its not even funny anymore… im disgusted.

but yeah, i like the fortis better too.

Sam, do you buy new all the time or ever buy used?

Where do you buy your stuff from? a local jeweller or on-line?

so im looking to pickup a watch in the near future, do i go chrono or no chrono.

Finally pulled the trigger on a BNIB 2254.50. I couldn’t be happier.

:ohyeah:

Good choice Rob. Is it some snky snky with a Patek movement?

Think i might finally pick this up this weekend.

so 2008 yet so nice. i’m a big fan.

i dont understand the major premium for rolexes… they have such limited dial arrangements and features when compared to most other brands… They dont make anything even close to what i’d want in their current line up.

however, i have seen some interesting vintages, but they cost retarded amounts of money for a solid old chrono.
