I have a client who loves my designs/creativity and who also designs and sells high-end jewelry. She has asked me to design a watch for her line to come out for Christmas. I just got a call that in August I will be meeting with some Swiss watch makers (actually from Switzerland) and designers to collaborate on a design. Should be a fun process to watch and be part of!
so I received this piece last week and actually it’s beautiful, i really like everything about it. it’s basically a white faced Speedy Pro but with an 18k bezel. It has the same proportions and hesalite crystal but it’s automatic vs. manual which again is a huge plus for me. negative points to it are that the clasp is not 18k and if you want the matching bracelet it’s $800 used and $1,700 new… nooooo thanks i’ll stick with leather.
however, after a few days it was losing time and i’m not into paying another $750 to service it so i am returning it (bought on ebay from a reputable seller). i sent it back today in fact. i beleive that it just needed to be opened and lubricated by any good watch maker knows they have you over the barrel… in hindsight, as i write this, i probably should have brought it to the dude who runs a watch shop on here… who is that again?
I’ll likely go back and buy another of these speedy’s. i think for their market price they are an absolute steal for what they are and this is a very very hard model to find but for some reason still only in the $1,900 - $2,400 range when found. that’s hard to believe when current model two tones are going for $6500+. these MSRP’d for $6k back 20 years ago in fact.
anyways, i moved into a Rolex GMT II… i’ll throw pics up when it arrives
@bing Did they give you any problems when returning it? Matt Hoffman is on here and his father owns Buffalo Watch and Clock. They are both legit watchmakers and I’m sure he can help you in the future. I’ll be at his shop later and I’ll figure out what his username is.
yeah in hindsight if i could have had the Speedy lubbed up for a couple bucks locally i would have done that but i dont know anyone in Ontario that does that and as mentioned, i didnt want to get into the full Omega servicing.
@cougarspeed, see if you can find a good clean speedy 3310.20 like that one. i couldnt take it off or stop looking at it while i had it. now that i think about it if the dealer services it i’ll just take it back instead of the refund and keep the GMT II as well
caught this vid in the context of others no longer being interested in IWC as a result. I think part of the sentiment is due to this guy having English as a second language and not communicating his points as elegantly as others could have done. he’s really right but maybe we prefer to be in denial about these things?
huge thanks to Matt Hoffman / @95d16turbo for taking a few moments today to show me how to authenticate it… Even though it has all the paperwork and a recent service invoice you can’t be too careful.
WTB: diamond bezel for GMT II…
so should i go with a ruby/sapphire/diamond pepsi bezel?
I bought that Omega off him. when i wrote him that i had an issue with it he responded in just a few minutes and gave me his cell number. I called, we discussed options, i shipped the watch back and received the refund as soon as he received the watch. awesome when ebay merchants stand behind their stuff. that’s probably the biggest fear most people have about buying on-line so thought i would throw the ebay link out there. his store doesnt have anything at the moment but he had about 50 Omegas for sale a couple week back and many at great prices with full kit.
