Watch Crew: What to buy?

This is a legit funny read all the way through… Wall Street Watch Hierarchy

Saw that one before. Pretty amusing.

Got a new-to-me old one in the mail today. 1975 Day-Date President, yellow gold. Spanish date wheel. The ultimate Pitbull Halloween costume accessory.

Buy that one from Hodinkee, by chance?

HQ Milton, actually

ha I like that

great piece. it looks stainless in the pics, or a weathered white gold, it’s YG though?

Rumours and predictions for Basel World Rolex models

Rumoured SS GMT II Coke.

I may have to go and get that if they make it. I’d probably flip my original coke to get it.

These renders of speculated Daytona TT’s are pretty hot as well

I don’t see Rolex putting a coke out at this point. BLNR is still relatively hard to get and it’s only 3 years old. I can’t remember the last time they only ran with a watch for 3 years?

I’m hoping they announce the discontinuation of the current SD4000. Apparently it’s a real possibility. Then I’ll put mine away and bank it in a couple decades.

they released the pepsi in WG last year.

just rumours. i hope they dont release a new coke… would save me a lot of $

It’s YG, contrast just threw it off. Great condition actually. Band has stretch as all vintage Presidents do, but might just have it rebuilt because gross cost to rebuild and my cost is way cheaper than going retail.

Better non-iPhone pics:

yeah but the WG Pepsi doesn’t compete with another GMT on the market. Two way different price brackets.

Picked up a couple of affordables…Orient Blue Ray II and Victorinox I.N.O.X. gray dial/brown leather strap

The Blue Ray immediately went on a BluShark Kwick Change two-piece gray nylon strap. The dial and bezel take on such different hues depending on the time of day and lighting conditions. Really digging it for a budget automatic/diver.

Will be switching to the I.N.O.X. for the gym and hanging around the house tonight. Love the I.N.O.X. description card in the packaging:

Congrats. I like them both.

No coke.

But it they did jack up the SD4k with a bigger case, a glossy face and a cyclops! Not particularly a fan.

My SD4K just went up in value though

whoa shit… they put the oysterflex on the daytona…

i need to get that strap but i dont think they sell it individually.

does that mean mine did too?

I’d guess that yours goes up in the long game. 30-40 years from now, it’ll be worth a bit more. The 116600 (SD4K) is going to rise immediately, because it’s a modern watch (ceramic, matte face, glide lock) and was only made for 30 months.

i keep scrolling up at those speculated rolexes and i like them a lot more than what actually came out.

the SS Skydweller is an interesting piece though… i dont want it, would prefer RG/WG but i’ve always liked how you dont see many people with the skydweller. I’m here in Palm Springs / LA this past week and literally every single adult i see is wearing a date just or a stainless sport model.

We had lunch off Rodeo Dr. at a jewish deli and there was a table of 4 kids, 2 boys, 2 girls in their early 20’s beside us. every one of them had a stainless rolex on.

Got a few things done the past few days…

Got the brake mounted, which involved making this fixture:

And then making polished parts to weld on to the frame. The welds came out really nice but I don’t have a picture.

Then the caliper mounts to those. I know what you’re thinking, how do you adjust for chain stretch, well, it’s not simple, and it will involve shims. I know it’s not the best solution, but it was the cleanest, and it’s not like this is exactly a miles bike, so I don’t intend on having to deal with that too often. I am using a Beringer caliper, which looks really cool, although I have a chrome one on order… interested to see which blends better.

I also made a kickstand. It’s made from 1/4 plate, cut out on a bandsaw, then welded and sanded. The bevel in the top, which is hard to see in pictures I put in with an angle grinder, I’m surprised it came out as well as it did. The spring mechanism is a stainless gas spring in compression. Still operates like a normal kickstand. The gas spring is hidden when it is retracted. I think I will make a nicer shoulder bolt, though.

Here’s a little video showing more:

I also foamed the seat. Initially this is how it came out:

But I wasn’t too crazy about that hump. So I cut it off and made a new one. Good thing this gets covered.

Thank you for all that have voted (especially those that voted for me). Tomorrow is the last day of voting. I encourage everyone who hasn’t already done so to go check out the bikes and vote for someone! There are some great bikes being built.

There are three places to vote.

  1. The best first place to vote is at here you can see all the bikes and read a bit about them, then choose a name and vote for it! My name is Christian Newman, the picture they used of my bike is pretty old.

  2. On instagram check out @show_class_mag and comment “vote” under the picture of my bike (my username is @ctnewman and the pic they used is old)

  3. This online poll is hosted by the Show Class.

Here are a few more pictures.
