the fact that everyone seems to like the idea but we all know it will never happen because of XYZ is mind bottling.
If you live here long enough you learn that’s how it works, especially dealing with the City of Buffalo.
Agreed! I was there from '03 - '11; it amazed me every time it happened, till I realized that’s just how it was there.
This is why I hope to NEVER move back to Buffalo.
On a side note they should change Buffalo to buffaLOL.
From now on i’m going to just reference things as “That’s buffaLOL.”
Sorry, I didnt read into everything. Who is forking over the money to do this if it even did go through? (Paying for stadium, bridges, tunnels, subway system) Whats happening to the old stadium and all of its workers and that community that strives off football revenues. Do they just become broke and force to move?
This may be true… but if it is, and you firmly believe in it, then you have to accept that Buffalo will continue to disintegrate into a smaller and smaller time town, never being able to accomplish any sort of significant regrowth. You can throw all the inner harbor and canal talk you want around but we need a home run like this. I still get sick to my stomach when I think of the Casino just sitting there. You dont live here so that may be easy to accept, but damn, shit needs to change if we have any chance of making positive strides towards rebuilding this city.
With what money?
Jaguars are also a great candidate for moving to LA
Hasiotis said that it was premature to talk about financing a stadium but that based on other stadium projects across the country, it was reasonable to expect the State of New York to pay about $400 million, the NFL $200 million to $400 million and hundreds of millions from construction trades since 10,000 construction jobs were expected to be generated, he said.
.
LOL at the casino… by the time they figure out if they want to pick back up with the construction the steel itself will fail tests on it’s thickness/weight rating due to prolonged exposure to the elements and material degradation.
Our city is FUCKED FUCKED FUCKED. Too many people are politically connected and it’s too easy for progress to be blocked by some crying hippies for anything of worth or value to get accomplished here. It’s going to take some time for all the retards in politians’ back pockets to die off before any REAL progress is made.
Also, if you read the article they are assuming that this project would recieve 40% funding from NYS themselves. YEAH RIGHT! not with a control board in effect because of the way the city was mismanaged for DECADES.
The only hope we have is ourselves and people like SCOTT who are advocating how valuable our location is and how it’s just being squandered by idiots, if the right people could get some backing buffalo could really mold into an AWESOME destination and a place it’s habitants would be more apt to proudly call home.
The issue is real progress isn’t going to be made without heavy private investment due to our track record as a city…and anytime a private investor is prepared to plunk down some serious money for a pipedream it gets shot down by preservationalists and obstructionists. It makes me sick.
I really wish I had the capital to get into commercial real estate and development.
Well said.
That domain is registered. Dammit.
Ya they are another huge one.
first of all, thrives*
What community? Workers would migrate to new feild/stadium. I would assume that nobody would lose their jobs (or a very small number). Who’s money? Private companies like banks and major corporations have been funding stadiums for YEARS. Why do you think the sabre’s arena is HSBC Arena? Because they pour money and investments into the arena so that their name will be associated with it. Works well in TONS of places. Tax payers shouldn’t have to pay for it. In Long Island they tried to build a new arena to replace the Nassau Colosseum. They wanted it to be tax payer funded with a new tax, so they put it up to a vote. FAIL. Got shot down by the residence in the county. Infrastructure would have to be gov funded, though.
Ralph Wilson Stadium. So… why are we paying for this stadium?
Also, no one will invest into a shitty losing team. 13 years of no playoffs says a lot to investers and the community. I for one dont give a shit about the Bills anymore with Wilson in Charge. Shitty coaching ( he picks coaches he can tell what to do, instead of coaches opening their mouth to wilson) Shitty QB.
strives?? really?? Yammy you constantly amaze me.
(HSBC arena is now First Niagara Center also)
Try my best. I do it all for you guys.
yeah i couldn’t remember who bought out hsbc

The Ralph was apparently largely funded by a company called Rich Products. Ralph had it changed some years later once the contract was up. Highmark Stadium (New York) - Wikipedia
edit: here is the quote from wikipedia
In 1972, Rich Products signed a 25-year, $1.5 million deal, by which the venue would be called “Rich Stadium”; this is one of the earliest examples of the sale of naming rights in North American sports. (The name was somewhat of a compromise, after Bills owner and founder Ralph Wilson rejected the name Rich wanted to use, “Coffee Rich Park.”)[6] After the original deal expired in 1998, the stadium was renamed in honor of Wilson, after Rich balked at paying a greatly increased rights fee[7], which would have brought the price up to par with other NFL stadiums.

Lots of people are leaving…
I’m not originally from Buffalo, but my wife did leave.
