The more money we tie up in the shit, the more we all lose. One more reason to be libertarian. People just don’t get it. I hate that liberals and conservatives are banking off debates like these. This isn’t even something the government should be wasting their time with.
Separation of church and state. Marriage is a legal institution. Period.
Are protestants against gay marriage? I don’t expect most protestants to even know that protestantism was started partly against the sacraments expect the Eucharist and Baptism, because who really looks into the things they believe in and fight for these days anyway, but I would like to know what an official protestant stance is on this. Guess that’s tough since they don’t hava da Popea.
How are any of those events associated strictly for straight people? You mean there are no homosexuals that attend furry gatherings, fantasy gatherings, porn conventions, or lesbians that would flash their boobs during mardi gras? None of those event revolve around a sexual preference
A nearly 25-year study concluded that children raised in lesbian households were psychologically well-adjusted and had fewer behavioral problems than their peers.
Honestly, if they’re going to claim marriage as a religious event, then civil unions should be made the standard for people being married, whether it’s same sex marriage or not. Make marriage something people can go through via their church if they want, but making it the standard for joining two people in union is idiotic. This is because of the fact that it then becomes subject to the beliefs of people of religion, which goes directly against the separation of church and state.
Also, @ person who says bible is fact: you’re stupid. I’d elaborate, but other NYSpeeders have done that already.
this country was built on the foundation of people being able to enter into contracts with eachother, and it is the federal governments job to make sure the contracs are upheld. If two people enter into a contract of marriage the governments job is to make sure the contract is upheld. End of thread.
So lets call it a civil contract and be done. The “marriage” vows can be a religious thing administered by a priest but they should just qualify you to get the same civil contract from a court.
I dont know how to explain it any better. Marriage is a contract. The government isnt SUPPOSED to be allowed to interfere in any contract that exists between two people. If two gay people want to get married and make it official with a contract they are supposed to be able to.
