Been messing with a cheap motorcycle lately. It’s fast, cool and cheap. Oh and it’s a BMW.
The S5 is the most expensive car I’ve owned but knock on wood so far the ownership costs have been nothing. I did a lot of research before buying on and the 3.0T/Gen II DSG was a really solid platform. No way I’d blow $1k a month on maintenance. I’d drop that thing like a used rubber.
I can help with the maintenance if you care to hop over the border. I am a bmw tech after all.
I can’t. Technically if I have the car serviced in the US I have to pay tax on the whole car when it comes back.
Also, this was just a particularly bad year. Valve cover gaskets when I should have done the covers, then did the covers again 5 months later. That was more than half of it right there.
It’s easy to keep nice cars when you don’t drive them but this one gets driven exactly that way youd wish every supercharged V8 m3 was driven.
I think I may just go right to 400,00km’s and be one of those guys.
Still cheaper than a girlfriend and way more fun.
Couple other notes. 170,000kms on the stop tech trophy brakes and haven’t even had to do a set of pads yet. They’re bulletproof. Best thing on the car.
The supercharger has been surprisingly reliable as well.
I suspect there are only a handful of guys out there with this kind of mileage on this set up.
I would totally consider taking the car in for a major refresh of everything over a winter for the price of a whole other e9X m3.
No one said it was gonna be done at the dealer lol I have a full shop, lift, hunter tire equipment etc etc.
You have a hunter tire machine & balancer in your garage?
