Wood coild be used… laminated wood is VERY VERY strong… especially if they are laminated with the grain going each way the people making the wood supercar had some interesting numbers for strength to weight of wood… but i imagine the heat would dry and crack the wood… and there are certainly better materials then wood, but it COULD be done… if you want to just do a proof of concept…

From the context of that guy’s post, I am going to guess that he was thinking more along the lines of using a 2x4.
If you are going to spend the time to fabricate some laminated wood, and cut/shape to work, you might as well have just gotten some thick steel and welded them up. You wouldn’t save any time or any money really. That’s the biggest reason why that idea is retarded.
