what are you guys using to clone a hard drive (open source)

I’m working on an older P4 gateway computer for my girlfriends father.

He has a problem with infecting the computer every single week, so I installed a copy of Ubuntu 10.x on it.

We can’t go to Linux only on this computer, he has some programs that he needs to use that are windows only.

I noticed that Ubuntu was running very slow, and I see that it is reporting many bad sectors on the hard disc.

I have an extra IDE drive to swap into it.

I’m looking for an open source livecd program that will let me copy everything from the old hard drive to the new one.

I need it to copy over all the bootloaders, all the gateway restore partitions, everything.

I’m looking at a program called clonezilla (clonezilla.org)…

Has anyone used this with good results?

THANKS…

Bootleg Norton/Symantec Ghost. Curious what others are using tho.

Roadkil’s raw copy for drive to drive copy http://www.roadkil.net/program.php/P22/Raw%20Copy or roadkil’s disk image for images http://www.roadkil.net/program.php/P12/Disk%20Image

Would that work to make a HD image I might later restore if I hose a reinstall?

Why does it have to be open source?

disk image will save a .img file which is an image of any drive you tell it to, and you can restore it if you hose the install, as long as you have the .img file, and a os to run it in. both of those come on the UBCD4WIN cd, which is an easy way to do it without windows (except you need windows to make the UBCD4WIN disk)
