It really messes you up that bad?

I can’t ever sleep. Ever.

But when I do finally pass the fuck out and get 11 hours of sleep or more, I’m usually sleeping on my stomach, with the fan on, the AC on, and under tons of blankets. (I know, it doesn’t make sense.)

I don’t have any problems usually, I find that I change positions many times during the night. whenever I have problems sleeping I just get up watch TV for 1/2 hour then go back to bed. Be carefull with the drug use I have seen many of my family members become dependant on small time drugs and work there way up.

i feel your pain…literally. I have a slightly protruded disc pushing on my sciatic nerve in my back (yes i know at age 20 i should not have this problem). basically, i have dull pain in my lower left back that goes down into my hip and down the back of my leg, and i cant really sit or stand for more than a half hour without it becoming extremely uncomfortable.

doesnt USUALLY bother me when i sleep, however, if i fall asleep flat on my stomach i will wake up and not be able to move. i have a very soft, cushy mattress (Sealy Im pretty sure) and i find it more comfortable than a hard surface. I dont really take any drugs at all for my back OR for sleeping, for my back i go to a chiropractor, and if you havent tried that for your back, go see one. a lot of people say its a bunch of BS, but i really do believe it works. if i have to, i’ll pop a couple IBprofin or Motrin and that helps.

as far as general sleeping goes, i personally like a LOT of blankets, even in the summer. i dont know why, i just like to be wrapped up in a ton of blankets. I also almost always put my iPod on really low and listen to music to help me fall asleep. the trick to that is that you have to listen to something familiar and that you know well, because if you try to listen to new music, you wont be able to fall asleep as you’ll be too concentrated on the music, and dont put it on shuffle either because you’ll be too worried about what song is gonna come next. the music thing works VERY well for me, but you night find that some kind of white noise works better for you, i personally go NUTS with that kinda stuff.

for the record the best sleeping positions to keep the spine aligned are on your back or side. i noticed also that my lower back would hurt a lot since i tend to torque my upper body (stressing only the lower back) while leaving my legs flat, what i do now is i have about 5 pillows on my bed, and i have to put them on both sides of me so i cant roll over, lol… thats what we do in the hospital to people whos bones come out of socket… im a geyser…

I have heard that your bedroom should be for sleeping only, ie dont sit in there and read or watch tv before you sleep, also it sounds stupid but if your not tired your not going to sleep, its hard when your on a schedule but if your just lying there tossing and turning get up and do something…
I work different shifts from time to time, 1st, 2nd and 3rd

theres days I work 8-4:30 and then pull a 11-7 the same night, or I end up sleeping until 3p and then have to go to bed because I have to get up at 6A

Randomly lying down on the floor helps me fall asleep when nothing else works

Short term fix. It’s just another antihistamine.

Have you been to a sleep specialist/clinic type of thing?

lol I was kidding about the “stomach sleeper” shit just goofin around.

I’m seeing a pain management doctor at the current moment

Just wondering, who advised you to sleep on the floor?

my ex’s father (used to be my doctor). That or putting a piece of wood under the mattress.

I was supposed to get an MRI a week ago but I found out I have no more health insurance a few days prior so thats real cool. So now I’m probably gonna get kicked out of my pain management clinic.

If you sleep on your back on the floor, no wonder you are in so much pain.

its better for your spinal alignment to sleep on a rigid/hard surface… albeit its harder to fall asleep/stay asleep

Yeah, but you are straightening out your spine, stretching out the erectors in the lower thoracic area. It’s not good for your back at all.
