What do you guys do to fall asleep?

I should have cleared it up a bit. I dont sleep on the floor everyday, maybe once a week.

Yeah, but you are straightening out your spine, stretching out the erectors in the lower thoracic area. It’s not good for your back at all.

strengthening the erector muscles is good for your core, id say sleep on the floor, but in order to retain the curvature in your lower spine, use a lumbar support pillow… its a known fact that the Worst method of sleep (for your back at least), is to sleep on your stomach… im not quite convinced that sleeping on your back would stress the dorsal muscles enough since you lose muscular control under sleep anyway. i believe its better to do that and retain good posture/spinal alignment, failure to do so could result in much more serious/painful medical problems in the future…

edit: take for instance slouching in a chair, over time this will become a habit and painful. when you sit up straight you are stressing some muscles because you arent used to using them in correct posture, but it aleviates “bone pain” from slouching etc…

I have a spinal curvature in my mid to upper back that pinches muscles and nerves causing pain and muscle spasms. Then I have a bulging disk in my lower back that causes shooting pains down my leg sometimes.

Discuss and give me a remedy

On your back with lumbar support= not bad. Side lying with the correct bolstering is ideal.

I deal with people every week who sleep on their back, and regardless of what some people seem to think, it’s not a good position to sleep in unbolstered. But let’s be real here, no one actually uses any support unless they are told to do so.

edit- 02svt- check speedracer’s edit. is your curvature from slouching (hyperkyphosis) or is it a scoliosis?

Its a scoliosis I believe. When I got into my accident, the seatbelt tore through my left shoulder, dislocating it and tearing tendons and ligaments. After the surgery, the shoulder grew slightly higher which caused a curvature due to uneven shoulders.

This is what my doctor told me so dont hold a knife to my throat.

reading makes me sleepy!

I sleep on my face, stomach down, I take it thats bad

yep thats correct, i didnt suggest sleeping on the side because i wouldnt think people would use support; without it that could cause injury. i sleep with about 5 pillows, one for support and others on either side of me to prevent me from rolling around. i used to twist my lower body, which gave me back pains… but pass mcgrass is correct about bolstering when sleeping on ones side…

melatonin won’t “put” you to sleep but it helps relax your brain and form regular sleep patterns.
